replaced nanocustoms fans again!

Man this sucks! I had to replace those fans again, but this time I learned my lesson. (do not use nanocustoms fans!)

Last time I replaced I had some extra fans from nanocustoms (same brand) and they lasted like 3 or 4 months, then crapped out again. My friends, and even my brother Michael was complaining of the sound it was making, and how it was hard to sleep. I decided, that's the last draw, I am going to fix these fans the way a IT technician can....go with a pc fan, most importantly a ball bearing fan!

I went to Fry's with my friend, and bought a cpu cooler for a P3 cartridge. They come with two 50x50x10 fans necessary to replace the generic non ball bearing fans I had grinding in my 6er. They cost me 14.90, but it was worth it. I worked on my hood before the new year hit, as sort of a new years resolution to get it done right. All I can say is, operation successful, no noise, just clean air flowing out, and heat is being dissipated out of there, keeping my tank at 77, 78 tops! (before fixing fans, I was hitting 83 to 84)

Well let me share some pictures, enjoy my DIY fixing on some fans, hehe.

First here's a picture of the generic bad fan from nanocustoms( if you have this fan in your nanocustoms upgrade, be sure to replace them out with some ball bearing , low noise 50x50x10 cpu fan)

here's the backend of the crappy fan.

now look at this new cpu fan (very proud of these new fans)
here I am working with them and saudering the wires together, and then putting on some heat shrink rubber to complete the task

here's a good shot of the completed product (note: the fans come with 3 wires, red, black, and yellow...the red and black are the only needed, and the yellow wire you can just snip off)

Lastly, here's me placing my fuge light back on right before putting the heat shield back on.

Well there's my little project, I'm much happier. There are other flaws in the hood, but I believe I'll be able to fix that once I get the new 2006 cube I won. Hope this information helps those others who may have gotten frustrated with those old generic fans!

No, those are Chris's supposably upgraded fans that cool your tanks better than the stock ones.

Not only is that false, but when they crap out they make loud grinding noises.

JBJ stock ones are fine, I have those still on my girlfriends 12 and they are still going strong. (i should upgrade those one day though, but I figure only when they die)

Steven,

Before you can conclude that the fans Chris at nanocustoms sold you are bad fans you must drive your new fans under the same conditions the old fans endured.

Only then could you make such a statement about his fans.

Any scientific study will tell you before you promote your product as being better than the other there needs to be tests.

Under these tests you must create an identical environment; then you can come up with a statement that you give.

If those new fans with the ball bearing hold you beyond your old fans; then I'd have to agree with your statement.

Never make statements like that until you have proven results as you can mislead users; of which I know you don't intend.

You are just excited with your DIY skills as I can see... By the way, good job....

Maybe instead of critiqueing nanocustoms, with your skills you should be working for him, hehehe...

"whatta a f*g", how dare you judge my work? :fu I know pcs and the peripherals like the back of my hand (10+ years experience), and I know with a fact that ball bearing fans hold better than a non ball bearing... how do I know? I have them in all my computers, as do you.......crack your old ancient machine and take a look inside......those are ball bearing fans, fans meant to take a beating, especially when it gradually collects dust. There's your scientific proof on ball bearing fans.

You need to stop defending his products, after you yourself have had bad luck with his stuff that breaks like that chiller. I posted to really help those people out there, so they know the pros and cons. The lighting idea is a good idea, but there are flaws that I am pointing out in hopes they'll be corrected one day. I am not saying nanocustoms is a terrible solution, but I am just saying that some of the parts used are shortcuts to quality things that are important in putting together such a product. I can already see improvements with Djconn's hood.....obviously his earlier products didn't look like that, but it's coming along better because of reading of the flaws......you take those bad flaws, and correct them and improve the product.

Anyway back to the cube, it's doing remarkably well, still holding at 78, and not going higher than that. It's a 2 degree difference with my girlfriends tank. Her's would do better if she had always on fans, but if that became the case, I'd have to replace those fans to a ball bearing fan, as they are meant to keep spinning long term. Those non ball bearings can only work with in a environment where it turns on and off, as I've seen with experience. Well I'll leave it at that.

Sorry for sounding harsh, but when it comes to my field I have to defend it, otherwise I wouldn't be in it. You can trust these fans will do better, and also there a few on here that have replaced fans with pc fans....I just can remember who, but I did read it.

Hey Skipm, thanks for the praise man, I took pride in this, as I saw it very important to do as I didn't want to jeopardize the health of my inhabitants with the raising heat due to lack of cooling. I hope this info helps out and if you need anything or any other member, please dont hesitate to PM or email me. I'll be gladly able to help or recommend what's needed and how to do it.

Is there a reason you bought a CPU cooler? Can you buy ball bearing fans by themselves? Just curious, Skip

good question. Yes you can, but I found that buying the cooler was cheaper than buying the fans seperately...imagine that, huh? :)
