Refugium/Sump Size

Is there any point in a small refugium? I have a 29 gallon tank, and was considering a 10-20 gallon fuge underneath my tank in the cabinet. The more I talk to folks who know what they are doing... the more I think this is a potentially worthwhile investment. I would love people's input here in the board.

JMO i think that refugiums are the best filtration out there for saltwater tanks. its all i run and i have great success. i have heard different things about fuge/wet dry sump. i like to combine them.

Same here... probably one the THE best additions you can make to your setup... I, too, wouldnt run another setup without one.

I like them, mainly because they are a natural form of filtration by growing macroalgaes to out-compete with the nuisance algaes for nutrients. They are also a neat source of natural food for corals and inverts. On a small system they probably won't produce enough food to sustain all of the corals and inverts but they are a source of some nice treats.

we just did a upgrade on are 55gal to a 90gal and did a little research. we took are old hang on the back wisper filter when 55 was a fw. gutted it out added crushed coral, cheto(the green stuff..lol) a few small live rocks and bought a 16.00 plant light and was good to go. have noticed ph staying reg with out a drop at night and lots of pods growing. saved us a little money since are wet/dry was filled up with a pump n skimmer and misc live rocks. but i think it would work on any tank.

Was wondering about the refugium and the bio cube, can you use that with the bio cube? Since it has the filter and bioballs in the back with the pump? I can't find a protein skimmer that will fit in the back. The fission is to big to fit the opening. And I want a reef tank.

BeckyB look into a hang on back skimmer. Aqua C Remora (I think that is how it is called/spelled) sounds like a good one. On the subject of sump/refuges I love them if only to get all the equipment out of the display, not to mention the added water volume bonus.
