Looks great! If you think there is a chance that you will ever want to place a sump under the tank then I would leave the back as is so air can circulate, if it is going to be used for storage only then its a matter of choice. Your design appears to be sturdy enough without adding a full back panel.

I think that I will leave the back open, its just that with a reverse lighting scheme, I wanted to keep as much light as possible inside the stand at night.

I also plan on adding some sort of moulding to the top (and maybe bottom, too) to help with the very square look.
