Reefman,

Post some more pics of him eating, because the one you posted doesn't display on the site.

All I see is the first pic of him but not in the tank...

WAR!!!

Unfortunately, Mr. Nudi was found dead 2 days ago. After a short investigation, the coroner came to the conclusion that the cause of death was trapping/squishing by rock. Poor guy...I came to really love my little FW vacuum. He was so pretty.

Here is the requested pic of him at work...its the best that I could do.

REST IN PEACE LITTLE BUDDY, REST IN PEACE.

This meant war!!! Chemical warfare, to be exact. I went down to the LFS, bought some FWE and then spent the next four hours in heated battle with the little bastards. I started out by draining about 5 gallons of the water out of my tank into a standard 20 that I have laying around. This functioned as a coral/invert holding tank.

Once that was done, I took out every rock, blasting each piece with a power head to remove as many FW’s from the holes and crevices as I could, then placed it all in a bucket. What I was left with was a rather dirty, FW-covered sand bed.

I gave it a couple minutes to let everything settle, then when at the bastards with a airline, sucking as many out as I could. I did this 3 times.

Confident that I removed as many FW’s as I could, I placed the LR back into the tank in sort of a open pile in the middle of the tank so that the water current could flow through/around all the rockwork. I had a power head flowing across the back of the LR, and one flowing across the front of the LR.

After the temp in the 20g holding tank was the same as the 16g, I placed the corals back into the 16g.
I filled the tank back up to the top. I set up my HOT magnum (including carbon…just in case), and after cleaning all power head and my skimmer, I added the recommended 1 drop per gallon…plus some.

Within just a couple minutes, I began to see dead and dying FW’s floating around. I never saw many FW’s collecting on the bottom or anything, so I was never concerned about the toxins that were released by the FW’s.

Now, 2 days later, and no sign of a single FW.

This rock used to be the most infested piece…now there is no sign of a single FW.

BTW…all my corals were fine throughout the whole process. They were all open and appeared normal. I also have a full population of copepods. So overall I am very pleased with the product.

I am going to retreat the tank this evening with another full dosage , then on Saturday I will perform a full 30% water change.

From now on I will use FWE as a dip for all new frags…these things have been the single largest pain in my ass…worse than bubble algae, cyano…all of it.

***NOTE*** I CANNOT SUGGEST THAT ANYONE TREAT THEIR TANK USING THE METHOD THAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE. I INSIST THAT YOU FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS ON THE FLATWORM EXIT PACKAGE. YOU SHOULDN’T UNDERESTIMATE THE NUMBER OF FLATWORMS IN YOUR TANK, NOR SHOULD YOU UNDERESTIMATE THE AMOUNT OF TOXIC JUICES THESE FW’S CAN EXCRETE.

Reefman,

You document everything really well, and I think you will not have flatworms after this assault on them, good job.

I remember I had them all over my 12 gallon cube when it was mature; we are talking about my SPS cube.

But as quickly as they came they disappeared, I never did anything. I'm led to believe my sixline wrasse killed them because I don't understand how they went extinct in my tank?

I have some in my 12 gallon and I have no idea where they came from because I haven't added anything new to this tank for several months. I have been on the lookout for FWE but haven't found it locally so I guess its time for a net order.

Skip, gotta agree with mike here. Just because you dont see these things now dosnt mean they disappeared forever. I would treat the tank just to be on the safe side...these guys are not attrative when they take over. I wish there was a way to just send you some of mine...the little dropper treats up to 300 gallons...I dont think I'll ever use all that.

I plan on ERADICATING (said with vengence) those little buggers, what I was getting at is I have no idea how they got in there since I hadn't added anything for several months to that tank other than flake food or prepared invert foods.

No problem, I appreciate the concern. I am going to try and get my hands on some FWE this weekend and will order it next week if I can't find any. How much did you dose? Did you just follow the package directions? Thanks

The first time around i dosed 22 drops in a 16 gallon tank. Around 4 hours later I added a couple drops. Two days later (yesterday) I added another 20 drops. The directions tell you to add one drop per gallon on the first day and if you see little or no deaths, add 50% more. I saw deaths within 2 or 3 minutes.

I began running my HOT magnum yesterday with carbon and filter floss. It has now been running for almost 24 hours and I cannot believe the difference!! Usually when I put my arm in the tank and then removed it, I was left with a light "ocean scent" on my arm...now there is no odor. The water is much clearer...even though I didnt think it was yellow to begin with. Now, I have NEVER run carbon on my tank, but I think that it is safe to say that the HOT magnum will probably be hanging on my sump or 20L for good.

How often/long do you all run your carbon?
