Also...kinda off topic, but does anyone here keep turbo snails? I know they can be bulky and knock things over, but are they efficient algae grazers? Would adding one to my tank beneficial?
I am not a big fan of crabs because IME all of them have been killers of snails or each other. Some people I know have no problems with them but I think they feed their tanks alot more than I do.
Turbo snails are great algae eaters but you already hit the drawback of having them in the tank, they act like miniature bulldozers and knock things over all of the time. Not a big deal before you start adding corals but once corals become the targets of being knocked around it can end up killing them.
I have seen my scarlet attack, and kill, other hermits and snails... They get lazy with age too. Mine sits in one spot all day long, occasionally grazing when he feels like it.
