Question for BioCube 14 owners

Hello fellow BC owners ... I purchased the BC14 a few weeks back so I am not stocked yet, but eventually would like some corals.

My question is whether or not the built in pump (106gph flow rate) provides enough turnover for livestock that require 'moderate' flow ? Have many of you had to upgrade your pumps due to inadequate circulation ?

Thanks for reading my post

I would upgrade that pump especially if it is going to be the only source of flow. I would suggest a maxi-jet 600 (160gph) and a koralia nano ( a VERY gentle 240gph). I would consider that somewhat moderate flow. Check out my tank... that is exactly what I have in my 12g AP and all the zoas/palys, rics, etc love it.

Hope that helps,

Jesse

Thanks Jesse .. I went to my LFS today but they only had the Maxi-Jet 900 so I went with it. However, when I hooked it up the flow (even on lowest setting) seemed way too strong ... No matter which way I pointed it sand was blown across the bottom of the tank like it was in a bad wind storm. I will take it back tomorrow and try and the 600.

Thanks again

I wouldnt give up on the MJ900 just yet. Many many people have that pump in their 12g-14g tanks. I think you just need to distribute the flow a bit.

Try to find something like this...

and a couple of pieces of loc-line like this...

Check out my tank. That is what I have and it works great. Although my pump is only about 160 (it may be a bit more after a mod I did) but it shouldnt be much different with the MJ1900.

HTH,

I found the pics of your tank ... Looks like a great setup !!

The only way I can fit the new pump into the filter chambers is to turn it sideways - The only hitch is that puts the outbound nozzle on the pump pretty much up against the nozzle leading into the main tank - and at a perpendicular angle none the less. If I can find some super flexible tubing that won't kink in tight spaces it should work great.

I will post some pics once I get it sorted out.

Thanks for the pointers !!
