Question about atlantic turbo snails

I came home today to see my Atlantic turbo snail on it's side with what looked like a garden of mold coming off of it. I went to pick it up and remove it when it started wiggling. I put it back down it turned it self back on it side. The "mold" looks like a mixture of sand and mucus. Is this their way of laying eggs? I know this is not an emergency but i wasn't sure what forum to but it under. Anyways does anyone know what is up with my Atlantic turbo snail?

If you can post a picture it would help to see what it is. I don't know much about snails in general but a possibility is that it could be healing from a cut, might explain all the extra mucus.

I waited a couples of days and the snail only got worst ended up taking him out. I took my water to the fish store to get checked and they said everything was fine. I added 3 more snails 3 hermit crabs and clown fish about 3 days ago and there all doing fine I think it was just a fluke.
