Purple Haze

Hey djconn.. Great Site! I wanted to ask you about your purple fish in your 20 gal tank.... It's beautiful.. It creates such an intense color it almost looks like it has a glowing aura. It is the only fish i consider to put in the 10g nanoreef tank I am planning... I sure hope 10g is not too small for it. What is the species common and latin names.. I would love to research it.

I think the fish your are referring to is a flame angel. I've had a few different fish in my 20 gal. tank but it has been the most beautiful by far. He was a model citizen with no problems at all with my corals. It was very healthy for about 5 months then got ich and died. Very sad day

In looking back, I would not put another angel in my 20 gal. again. I've learned a lot since then and I believe that angelfish in general really do need lots of room to roam around and graze. That might be why he eventually died.

I have a 6-line wrasse now and he's very interesting to watch. Darts in and out of my rockwork hunting down pods all day. You will be very limited to which fish you can put in your 10 gal. I would suggest a goby or maybe even one small clown.

If the flame angel is red its not the fish I was referring to. There is a purple fish in one of your pics and he looks identical to one I seen at the LFS. But IRL the fish literally looks blurry almost the color is soo intense.
