Okay, I bought this "whisper power filter (internal) from tetra" thinking it will be used just to filter out my LR's while their in my 2.5 gallon tank. The 2.5 was just for curing the rocks so I didn't really care about a $10.00 filter. Until the filter sucked in the live sand and it stoped. So this is how I found out a little gem.

1. Whisper power filter internal by tetra. I bought my at Wallmart $10-$13.00

2. There are two screws to undo on the bottom of the filter. Unscrew them and pull of bottom portion. You will see a small powerhead connected to the larger piece. Pull it off and in your hands will be your powerhead.

3. The filter came with two suction cups that can be installed by pulling the top and bottom pieces. There are four holes in the back which the suction cups can be fit since you opened the back and can be closed afterwards. I put it diagonal due to the size of the suction cups. They can't fit next to one another.

4.Here it is in my 2.5 gallon. Sorry for not cleaning it up to look proper but i was excitied plus its only curing rocks for now. I'm waiting my cycle to end to get things really started. :lol3:

Hope his can help out in everyones cash situation! Even though I just bought a rio powerhead I would have gone this alternate route if I didn't have the time to get one on-line.... Happy reefing.

other day cleaning you may be ok

I had one in my 5g I had to clean it so often it was annoying. There were times when I was cleaning 4 or more times a day. But then again my clown fish loved to kick up the sand. The filter did finally cook itself one day when I was out for the whole day. But if there isnt going to be sand flying it should last.(mine was fine until the clown was added.)

i second your opinion sady cause i used to have one in my 2.5 g freshwater and when i updated for 20g filter for my 2.5 g .... i decided to give a use that tiny pump in my saltwater tank perfect size for a extra flow then like 2 and some weeks later the pump keep folling and when i took a close look to the cups they were like kind of melted but not really but i could take some rubber out of the cup by just passing my finger nail so i was thats not good some one could nip on it and swallow the plastic so i put the pump that came with the nano cube and problem solve..... so   take a closer look on those cups but if you can get some clear cups will be better cause is different material than the black ones.....

and yeah they work great like back up powerheads ....

At the very least they should be able to be put in service to aerate a bucket of water or mix some fresh saltwater. Thanks for the tip.
