power head for skimmer

Is it possible to use a powerhead with the venturi hook up to supply bubbles for a skimmer? Will this create foaming or do i need an airstone?

my skimmer uses a PH....most skimmers use a pump of some sort...only a couple use air stones.

im trying to use a PH but the venturi does not work if there is any back pressure. I have a aquaclear 50 (402) . Many years ago i never heard of using a PH for skimmer bubbles . I did not think they can produce a fine enough bubble. I was going to try to insert the airline into the impellor area but it seems to be not possible cos there is no access to the impeller. Any suggestions would help, Thanks

all the PH's that i have or bought have an attachment that holds the airline in the middle of the inlet...what kind of skimmer do you have? on your PH does it have the basket built into it already....so nothing gets sucked into the impellar. if it does melt, drill, glue, ect. a hole or an airline adapter to it on the intake side and it will suck air into the impellar. but far warning some PH's arent made for this and it might not work so youll have to get a pump or PH that will. hope this helps

thanks for th help. I ended up putting the airline to the impeller. Bubbles are very fine. That bioball mod is appealing. I think i will give that i try. if only i could find one bioball........
