Plate corals, short and long, post up!

Here's my newest addition to the nano 6, I had to re-arrange a little to accomodate him, but it worked out in the end.

It's a Orange short tentacle plate coral. It has some green and bit of pink too, very nice. Now this is something I can live with as opposed to the bad luck I received with the long tentacle plate that wreaked havoc some time back Live and learn, anyway here's my pics. Hope to see some of other fellow members plates in this thread too.

No they dont move around, just the short little tentacles will move around in the current. (something I'm happy about)

With the long tentacle species, they expand double their plate size and their tentacles seem to extend so damn long they'll go on a stinging spree.

With this species of short tentacle, I wont have to worry about that at all, just admire the coloration and short tentacles. For what they eat I am sure they catch whatever left overs from the tank when I feed. I've never fed one, but if I were, I'd probably turn of the pumps and try feeding some cyclopeeze in the center when it's fully extended. For the most part they'll feed from the trace elements in my tank, calcium, strontium, yatta yatta.

Bro,

Your orange fungi plate is beautiful, nicer than mine since you have green and pink in yours. They are nice additions for nano tanks, I tried telling you that a long time ago, but you ignored and purchased the long tentacle, mistake just like I did many months before you.

You are just like me, trial and error but hey, that's the way you learn in this hobby right? Your tank rocks, I bet you are trying to get it ready for the contest, you are off to a nice start.

P.S If you would like to feed it, turn off your pumps and spot feed it with cyclopeeze or mysis in the center of the disk. The mouth is located right in the center and they will eat from there, if you miss and it falls on the tentacles, watch it closely it will send it tentacle to tentacle untill it reachs it's mouth.

They are very cool and never bother anyone, they will expand but not even close to what you had before with the long tentacle plate.

you are quite right, I missed out, but trial and error led me to this, and I'm quite happy. I was feeding just flakes today, and a lot of the flake got stuck to the tentacle, and with the current and all, it was still able to carry it tentacle by tentacle until it reached it's mouth and ate it all up. Next time I'll catch it on video with some time-lapse photograpy. :razz:

I love these guys. I may have to do some rearranging in the nanos so that I can clear enough space in the sandbed for one. The large one I had in my main tank got killed by my jawfish burying it in sand.

This is Lithophyllon (a fungiid) its more like an encrusting plate with many mouths than anything but just thought id share
