Plate coral or frogspawn

I want something to host a pair of ocellaris clownfish. At first I was going to go with a BTA but I think I'm going to try something a little easier. I did some research and I came up with plate coral or a frogspawn. Which one would be better for the clowns? Which one is more hardy?

I would personally go with a frogspawn. You may find that your clowns will try to host just about anything though.

The easiest way to upgrade if you decide you need to is just buy the one that comes with the 150watt HQI to begin with. :)

I would go with the 150w HQI . You will never doubt if it is enough light. As for clown hosting, I have xenia, frogspawn and a ricordia (among other corals)...they prefer the ricodia over everything else. Not sure why but they do. It wasn't immediate either, they have been in the tank with the corals for nearly 4 months before they started hosting. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

If I go with the MH could I put something over the tank to prevent the fish from jumping out? Something that prevents them from jumping out but doesn't block the light.

you can get that white plastic grid stuff from home depot that people call eggcrate. I don't have anything keeping my fish from jumping out and have never had a problem. I don't think this is a problem for most people.

I've got an idea... how about a plating frogspawn! :)

Frogspawn are great and available in a lot of different varieties. I rarely see the plating variety, and the one in my tank is so large now I could split it four ways if I had the right tile saw ad WAY more courage than I do.

Also consider hammer... or both...

The plating variety of either produces an animay your clowns can really get themselves deep into, the branching, under good conditions, will provide you with enough frags to last a lifetime. Whichever you add, however, make sure to religioulsly dose calcium and alkalinity.
