Hi guys,
I know this is a mainly saltwater site but i thought i might get away cos of the loophole (nanotank, not nanoreef or nanosalt or nano-non-fresh). Djconn, if you dont want this here, pls remove it.
Anyway, now that my picoreef is more or less stable, i was just gonna start a pico planted tank. At first was thinking of getting a pair of Amphyosemion Australe (theyd be good cos i wouldnt need a filter to keep them, but they cost 35 bucks a pair here so i started looking for alternatives.
Stumbled across 3.90 cardinals at pets paradise (think petco); they were low priced cos the manager doesnt know they're cardinals and listed them as "assorted tetra". Cardinals there cost 9.90. ANYWAY, i got myself thinking i could get away with 6-8 of them in a small nano.
Then i started thinking about some of my fave freshwaters: dwarf cichlids! Do you guys think i can get away with a pair of small blue rams
(or bolivian rams) in a 3 gallon? Also hoping for some breeding. An alternative of that is, of course, the checkerboard cichlid; also in a pair, with hopes for breeding. I think i wouldnt be able to do an apistogamma pair cos theyre real wife beaters and the girls wouldnt be able to get away from the male in a 3 gallon.
Btw, in the case of the cardinals, rams, bolivian rams or checkerboards; id be running an AC mini (cant use anything bigger cos the flow would be too great for the plants and the south americans.
Let me know what you think, k?
