Just figured id post here with help planning my 20L... right now i have my 5.5 that has been going almost 2 months... very few inhabitants but that will change a lot in the next few weeks...

looking into getting a 20L when i move out of the residence halls into my fraternity house (they dont allow pets at all, but i think i can get away with it because im becoming house manager)

so i was looking at the 30" Coralife 2x65w fixture... while it would be a drop in watts per gallon, i know that doesnt matter much... and with 130 watts over a 12" deep aquarium i figure i can keep anything short of clams...

i figured i would go without the HOB fuge and just have 2 or 3 PH in the tank... or maybe i would rig up the current 5.5 into a fuge but thats more work than i want and would leave me without a place for my current inhabitants while rig it up...

any ideas? anyone out there with a 20L setup?

I love long tanks! Have fun setting it up. Your lighting is ample for any corals.

Are you going to set it up, let it cycle, then move the things from your 5.5 nano into this new cube? That's so much easier than trying to move a whole tank all at once. (I just had to do that, it's no fun.)

Do aquariums count as pets?? I wouldn't think so. Go for it!

Yeah.....the 20 long is a great tank, just don't over load it with rock in the beginning. It runs out of room fast!!!

I would look into some type of surface skimming, the 20 long has a lot of surface.....

I'm running a 20L and I have 300 watts of vho.
When i started it i had a HOB refugium and it work alright. The one im running now is drilled in the back. Im using a 10 gallon as a refugium.

ive actually started looking into getting a 150watt MH 14,000 k or 20,000 k system instead.. i noticed after i bought my zoas recently when they went from the MH at the store to my PCs that i have now the green became lighter and the blue became less intense... while they still look cool.. they look more like brown and white rather than green and blue like when i got them... so im thinking if the MH makes that big of a difference in looks than maybe itll make a difference in growth,,,

ultimately id like to start selling frags to make money BACK because the hobby sucks so much out...

the PCs arent out yet,, just looking at some other stuff.. because if they are going to cost 130 and i can get 150w MH retro kit for 180... it might be worth the 50 bucks
