a few add ons though ....... look at a aqua-c urchin to put in that sump it is a wise investment - i love my remora....... i clean the glass on my figi only about once a month! and thats only to take pics not that it needs it
and two a sock for that sump return line - easier to clean then sponges and will keep a lot of detritus from entering the nitrogen cycle - a true algae solution.
nice work!
Thanks J&D! I have the socks, just waiting for them to come in, and I was looking into skimmers, I totally skipped over the Urchin, I thought the Remora were going to be out of my price range that I wanted to pay. My LFS suggested teh Corallife Super Skimmer, but it requires a lot of tinkering before it is set-up properly. With the Urchin (after doing some reading) IT seems like it is Plug and play and it is only about a $20-30 difference than what I was going to pay, so thanks for the suggestion, I think I am going to order it! Thanks!

Thanks ED for the compliments! The bottom tank I am attempting on running a Plenum system and it needs at least 4 inches to work properly. With the top, I only put a little bit about 1 1/2 inches just to cover the bottom, since the fuge will be doing a lot of the filtration for me. And believe me I am trying to get this done as fast as possible. I hate waiting!!! But I need 3 more things to come in, My MAG 3, Skimmer(still deciding what I want but probably going with what J&D recomended), and the socks for the drain pipe. So hopefully by the weeks end it will be done, and then I have to figure out how to get 50 gallons of water to my Apartment! I only have 2 - 5 gallon containers! Probably going to be going back and forth a couple of times! OH and that AVATAR is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! :lol3:

thanks everyone!

OK The moment that I have been waiting for!!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!! :banadance:

So i ran into a few problems:

1.) the mag 7 is WAY too much flow for the 1 - inch drain. I made a note to myself, that the next tank will have a HUGE DRAIN!!!!

2.) Water finds all of the damn problems in your silicone job!!

3.) Should have done ALOT more planning <---But I don't think I did too bad of a job, could have thought more stuff out though.

Ok onto the pics:

Top tank, all reef

Side shot of top, needed a PH anyway to get more circulation since I had to turn down the power on the MAG 7

The Fuge w/out any Macros, they are coming Tomorrow

Behind the scenes (Also known as the Sump) Don't mind the chilipepper towel.

The whole Shabang!!! (the powercords are going to be screwed onto the wall behind the tank, so they will be gone in the morning!

Thanks everyone for the input and advice! I enjoyed this project and probably wouldn't have gone so well if you guys weren't so helful! thanks again!

Hey Alex... what is the head on the pump? The way I figured it, even at only 3 feet head with a straight pipe, you should only be getting around 550 GPH. A 1" bulkhead should be able to handle around 600 GPH. Maybe open up the hole on your "T" or something.

Anyways, your setup is AWESOME! Great work! Dont feel bad, after these projects you ALWAYS find things you should have done differently.

Great work,

Jesse

yep agreed very nice project and yeah there is always the "man i wish i had done that" thing that follows.........
and i'm not sure but i think making the hole smaller creates more draw?????? don't it pull more in syphone then?? but i'm not sure here just speculating might be a trial and error thing to get the hole just the right size - so don't hold me to that i'm guessing, i know jesse played more with that then i

Yeah... the smaller the hole, the faster the flow. I have one very small hole in each of the caps...one of the smaller drill bits that I own. I have dual 1" bulkheads though, so I cant completely relate with your situation besides that I have heard/read that a 1" bulkhead does about 600 GPH.

Quite a nice tank! After a little reading the plenum is not for me. Requires too much sand and I'm not that proficient on designing sumps :D

Looks interesting.. maybe something I'll do in the future when I'm more seasoned and comfortable withs mods and sumps.

Always nice to see a DIY turn out well.
