As promised, I got pics up of my long anticipated pico. I got up and running on Thursday January 6th, right before I hit up Vegas. Here's the specs.

I have 5lbs of LS, 2lbs of LR. LR came out of fully cured/cycled tank where gobys are held in. LS came out of tank that had a few fish and shrimps mostly. I assembled everything with the components I bought, Whisper 10 filteration system, Neptume 6 inch 25 watt heater, polyfilter to help filter water, digital thermometer, and two 18 watt 50/50 PC lights. I also bought a 1 watt led moonlights for it too, but I have it running on my girlfriends jbj 12 gallon, until she gets the R2's.

my melody

my melody from a bit more back *clickable*

my melody a bit more closer

some random colored zoos (came with LR)

a frag I picked up, Galaxia *clickable*

this one is cool, looks like purple palm trees, called organ pipe

this is like a hairy mushroom I think, it also came on the LR

yellow feather duster worm (came on LR)

Well that's about it, the rest of what I can see are little copepods, real tiny feather duster worms, a nassirus snail that are almost microscopic, a flat looking slug. My tank is thriving with little life. I've also seen those peanut worms too :) I love my new tank, and I'll be adding more things probably next month. This is it for now, hehe. Laterz.

ps if there is any problems viewing the pics, try right clicking and choose "show picture" I am trying "bestupload.com" to place these pics, but if it's not working as well, I'll use tinypic to host them.

I'm just leaving work, so my connection speed here is pretty awesome, and it took a LONG time to get all the images to load. I never did manage to get all of them to show up at the same time.

The first set of polyps are of course zoos.
The second coral frag is galaxia. Cool stuff, but it's got one of the strongest stings out there, and very long sweeper tentacles. Keep an eye on it, especially at night. I've got one tough little frag of this stuff, about the size of a nickel, that's been with me nearly since I started the tanks. It's been lost in the rockwork 2-3 times and still managed to hold on. Mine is a bit greener than yours, and not as healthy, only one or two areas on the skeleton on mine actually have polyps. I'll try to get a close pic of it tonight when I get home so you can see it better.
The third frag is organ pipe. My wife loves this stuff, and we just got a new frag last night. We've never been able to keep it alive, a couple friends can't keep it either, however I've met folks that have it growing nearly like zenia, or GSP, so it's not like they're impossible.
The next one, (mushroom), I don't think is a mushroom. I think it's an anemone. Possibly a majano. But it doesn't look quite like most of the pics I've seen. Do a search for them until you've seen several pics of majano anemones. If your's starts to puff up a bit on the end of the tendrils/tentacles, kill it. These are much worse than aptasia as pests. Stronger sting, faster to reproduce, and harder to kill.

The tank looks beautiful. I'm keeping my eye open for possible pico tanks at this point. Great job on this one.

First off, bestupload does not live up to it's name for uploading, lol. I only used it so I'd be able to see the pics when I went to work. I like to use tiny pic, which works flawless, but when I go to work, I'm unable to view it, it's like a blocked site, and I personally cannot unblock that. (damn I need more power in IT) Anyway, I am going to re-upload the pics using tiny pic when I get home from work today. Thanks for identifying my frags. I had the names then, but just forgotten as I went to vacation. It sucks about that thing you think is a aneome. At first I was like cool, but when I read on, you were like they worse than aptasia, I was like "f*ck!" That pic I sent you is super close macro shot. If you look to the right of the organ pipe in a regular pic of the pico itself, you'll see the round anemone looking thing. I'll look around for more information and see what's up. It looks nice in color, shame if I have to kill it, but I'll do it if it's harmful. I think I may have mini mini aptasia, I know what the bigger pics of them look like, but I dont know what they look like when they are no bigger than a lead tip of pencil you know? If they are, I guess it wont be hard getting like a razor blade and cutting off each one, til they all gone. Do any critters eat that bad stuff? curious. Well I'm off to get into my first day back at work, so I'll catch you and everybody else later. (oh and I wasn't able to view your pic of your galaxia as I believe you use photobucket, and that's on restriction site here as well....argh!! No biggie though, if there is time I'll check it out on my managers pc. Lates.

I can't see the pics at all now...From what I remember of the pic from last night, it might be a tulip, but the color didn't really look right, but that could be angle/lighting/etc.. Unless the tips bulb up I wouldn't worry too much about it. Some peppermint shrimp will eat aptasia. It's kinda hit or miss. There's also a really pretty nudibranch that does, but it doesn't eat anything else so it dies after it eats all you've got. Here in Houston I know enough reefers that I could probably get one, eliminate my aptasia, then sell/give it off to another reefer that promises to pass it on when it's eaten everything in their tank. Otherwise I wouldn't get one, cause I think it's stupid to put one in your tank to just have it starve once it's performed its job.

Sorry again incysor and everybody, I made an ill choice with bestupload, but fixed them with hosting the pictures from two other different places. I found one that was cool that automatically makes thumbnails and if you click they enlarge, but it worked twice for me, then the site itself went down. I went to another site and hosted the rest, and together they are working fine. Let me know if any other problems and I'll fix it. Thanks!

Brian: As far as the nudibranch....any species will do? I see diff colors, mainly the purple one. I was thinking I could get one, let it do it's thing and then take it back, a peppermint shrimp would be cool too, I read about that it eats other good things too though, I read up about it from one of dj's posts. Somebody was concerned about it as they ate a certain kind of polyps or something, I"ll have to check again.

Great shots. That is a cool looking nano! I can see all the pics now. Keep us updated on its progress.

That is so awesome! I've been toying with the idea of doing one of those too, maybe someday.

I'll have to second the anemone thing. It's definitley not a mushroom.

Nope it's a specific nudi. I believe this is the one, although it only mentions flatworms, and not aptasia...It's possible I've gotten this one confused with the aptasia eating one, but I don't have time to look through threads on RC. Peppermints have been known to eat yellow star polyps.

Thanks for the link, but yah I'll look and dig further to know which one for sure. I'll also take some pics of what is growing, if it's possible, since it's soooo small. It's hectic right now in IT, so it's more and likey I'll check at home.

Yeah, before I went on vacation, my LFS, had just recieved a shipment of new frags. I saw frags that I didn't see in anybody's tank, and so I picked them up to be different. I like them, and I'll continue to look for unique items. Thanks for your feedback.

other responses...

Hey Incysor and everybody, I got a few responses from nano reef and reef central. Nothing definite, but this what I've got.

From reef central I got this response so far:

"Looks like a flower anemone to me but may not have enough rows of tenticles for that, ( my books are all packed ready to move so not real sure). But not sure. Even if its a mojano, dont kill it, they multiply slowly and are addorable.
Hope someone else lets you know what they think. I think its cute."

From nano-reef, I got this response so far:

"It doesn't look like a Mojano to me dude. If it does bubble up then it could be a BTA. But it seems to be a Condy purple tip anemone."

That's it. I also been searching around, looking at different pictures, but nothing. If it had more white, it would look like the condy, but it differs. Al i know is last night, when I got back from work, I noticed, it's streched out more (the stem) and is reaching out closer up towards the lights.

I don't think it's a condy... Most of the condys I've seen don't have that large a 'disc' area around the mouth. There are a ton of small anemones out there. The 'tulip' anemones weren't catagorized at the time I bought mine, it may still not be yet. I just brought up the majano so you'd do some looking at pics. That way if it started to look like one, you'd know what it was and be able to get rid of it quickly.
The person that said that majanos don't reproduce quickly pretty much goes against every comment I've read on RC.

I'd say just keep an eye on it. Hopefully it'll color up, not bother anything else, and reproduce slowly, but surely. Then you'll have something good for trading.

check this out bro....as I told my bro I did some new aquascaping like last week and when i did that, I turned the rock that the majano anemone or whatever that is upside down into the sand, and put it in the back. I thought it may have died, since I haven't seen it for a week and it being buried in the sand. I come home from work, and I see it on a new piece of LR that's smaller. It looked funky looking.....I kept staring at it for a long time, and I got to witness it splitting in two!! Look at the results.....

Here's some other shots I took so you get an idea on how it looks now.

a cool shot i like how it goes behind what's in front to see what's in back

a nice pic of ol mr. neon blue, and his the hole he calls home to his left.

last pic just a overall shot of the tank as a whole

It looks fantastic. You should post that pic of the split anemone here and ask Dr. Ron if he can id it. I dont' think it's a majano, but I don't know what it is either. But I'd like to know. I really dig lots of different types of anemones. On that note, I think that having as many anemones as I have in my large system has encouraged a bit of competition. The clowns are no longer hosting in my RBTA, and I've rubbed against it twice in the last couple weeks and been stung pretty good. I've felt it immediately both times, and gotten a small rash as well. This didn't used to happen with this anemone at all, the sting used to be mild enough that I couldn't feel it at all.

I did now thanks

Hey incysor and everybody:

I posted at Reef central again, this time where you specified incysor, (as before I posted in anenome section and got not much help there) We'll see what Dr. Ron has to say on this. Here's a copy of the thread I created.

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... did=511149

Thanks for the comments too, tank is coming along nicely, I'm starting to see new tiny snails too, it's cool *yea they got shells* cool small life thriving in there in such a tiny tank.

Steven,

Are you adjusting your camera's white balance when you take pics? The reason I ask is that all the pics of the 2.5g while very sharp seem to have a blue cast to them, which I assume is from the lights.

Looking at the anemones I was wondering how true the pics are to their actual color, and if that would make it any easier to identify.
