for your tank to cycle completely i would add everything at once. i would lay down the sand (i suggest arag-alive fiji pink sand, a lot of my reefer friends use it and it's a pretty sand, not too coarse or too fine http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/aquari ... 041400.htm)
and after you lay down your sand i would put your LR in and aquascape to where you like it, you can change the aquascaping later if you need to.

try to put all your sand and LR in at once, because adding new LR later will probably prolong the cycle

for a 6gallon i would suggest like 20lbs of LR. the more the better because LR acts a filtration for your tank.

well, the tank finally came, all i can say for window to the sea is that they pack things well, i installed the minijet, the hydor flo nozzle, added the live sand, i have to ask though, even embarrassed, and i am an engineer, the water level seems confusing to me....are you supposed to be able to see the water line in the tank, i filled it up originally to near the top of the inlet, but then i realized it defeats the purpose of the 2nd & 3rd chamber if the water line is above the divider between the two (or maybe i am wrong), anyways, i am currently cycling the tank with just the LS, getting the rocks in a couple days, but my jager heater is above its recommended water level.....should i fill the tank higher and get a shorter heater?? thanks devin

the water level should not be visible from the outside of the tank, it should be above the bottom of the top plastic support. As far as the jager, i think there is a line for a MAXIMUM water level, because I dont think it is fully submersible, right? Im not very familiar with those, sorry.

ok cool, yeah, the jager heater is too tall, well, the stiff cord at the top pushes the heater down...gonna order a new heater -
