You definitely have some nice growth and coloration in your tank, keep up the good work.

the white tips on this type (monti) is growth - they are "bald" on the growth tip - the color is actually purple - bad pic
the edge of a cap will also be bald in areas of fast growth - this is where you get your best colors also
acros growth tips are not bald that is where all the pretty color is - check the macro shots on my figi tank page and you'll see this...

Good to know as I'm thinking of making the leap over to the SPS realm. Any other insights you can share to make the transition easier?

a couple things
1) make sure you buy captive breed frags, maricultures are OK but slow to acclimate, but wild caughts are very tough - every one i tried receded from the base due to lack of natural sunlight (ie the sun moves our lights do not)
2) throw the frag in the sand for a week and think about where you want it, then when you decide take the rock out and glue it down! - this does 2 things, keeps the snails fom tipping it over, and also keeps you from moving it about. it takes a while for their growth form and color to adapt to a specific flow/light pattern and moving them slows them down cause they have to start all over.
3) Ca and ALK are about your 2 most important params - i don't want to go high tech so i add KALK 100% of my top off water and try to change water biweekly or so
4) lighting scheme:thousands of options i can comment on 5
250W 20K - awesome growth and color
175W 10K w/ VHO actinic - just as nice, maybe better???????
175W 14K w/VHO actinic - hated it way to blue made it only 2 weeks on my tank
175W 14K with PC actinic - awesome color but very slow growth
175W 10K with PC actinic - so far so good, too early to say for certain but it seems as if both the color and growth are better - it is not as asthetically pleasing as the 10K w/VHO scheme but hopefully it will do as well for me

bottom line start with healthy frags and the rest is just good reefing

new shots - just took the purple tip acro today and got me looking back at older pics this is about 3 months inbetween - not a huge amount of growth for that time frame but it didn't grow at all in the 3 months that preceed these pics - took a long time to acclimate and settle in now it's starting to take off

taken april????

taken today

one more just for fun - orange digi fragged and layed on its side rather then glued standing up like normal - took a while to take off but after it encrusted like crazy the branching really took off:

i'm thinking about 6 months maybe????
