Nope...In fact there won't be any more pics of it. I found it dead this morning.
This is the reason you shouldn't buy octos in the stores...They're usually
fully-grown and you may REALLY not have long with them at all. All my params are testing good, so I'm gonna take a sample with me to the LFS tonight to see what their tests say. It may just be a case of an old octo.

You know what they say, you can have everything prestine, and go by the book with drip acclimating it at all, yet they still can die. Well at least you reduced the odds of what could have killed him. I wonder if something stressed it, it's environment or something like that. Sorry for the loss......will you try again with another?

Sorry about the loss of your octupus. I cared for one for at least 4 months infact it made it to my work. I had it in a 60 gallon reef tank with fish and then I had it in a 10 gallon all to himself.

He did well but I couldn't keep up the water parameters in such a small tank, he would eat gold fish and I think he died from too many sick goldfish that we would feed him.

Was very easy to keep other than that.

Unfortunately goldfish don't make decent food for marine fish. They don't have the right type of fatty acids. Some marine predators can tolerate it longer with some strange results, other's will die pretty quickly from malnourishment.

This octo could have been old, although it didn't seem to exhibit the types of behavior you usually see with old ones. I may take another water sample in to one of the other LFS and have them test the water as well. I never saw it eat, but I figured that it would just go after my clean up crew, so it would take awhile before I started noticing a reduction in the crab population.
It may have just been shipping stress.

Had my water tested at Global, and I had slight traces of ammonia. Fairly consistent with having a critter die in your system, but not out of line at all. Nitrates, nitrites, zero. Calcium, ph, phosphates were all good. The tank temp is 74-77 over 24hrs, but that shouldn't really be an issue. I'm starting to think it was just shipping stress.

Well your last post pretty much answered my question on getting one. I will NOT be purchasing one.

Cool octo tho.

That is totally awsome but I wouldn't like not being able to have anything else in the tank! You probably have a ton of tanks! This hobby tends to make you do that! hehehe. Good luck with the new addition.

New octo (again)

I found this little guy at City Pets on Monday night.
He acclimated well and pounced on a crab almost immediately. You can see it holding the shell in the last pic. So far it's stayed in the open most of the time. It's been out every morning, and during the evenings with the lights on it's been hanging out on the cleaning magnet, and the few places on the rock where I don't have anemones. I'm going to have to do some serious maintenance this weekend and remove all the aiptasia, and tulip anemones so that he can move around easier as he gets bigger.

Thanks for all the info! So any full tank shots of your octo habitat?
I know I've posted these before, but for the life of me I can't seem to find them.
The last photo has the canopy on the 75, since that photo I've also added a matching canopy to the 40g.
