looking to start a 10g nano, I have lots of fresh water experience but no salt experience..Here is what i have so far, please give input , advice...

10g tank
aquaclear 150 (good for up to 29 g)...I was thinking I could put rubble in it..
custom canopy that I built which now has 2x 23w CFL lights in it..Both are 6700k...
100w heater

What else do I need? or what should I change?

Thanks..

The lighting is going to look super yellow on a saltwater tank. You are going to want lighting in the range of 10,000k and probably some actinic lighting too.

As far as everything else, you should find alot of helpful advice in this forum (Beginner's) and some of the others too (Member's tanks).

I am against the rubble-in-the-filter trick as I find that it traps alot of detritus and the benefits are negligible. If you have enough live rock in the display (around 1-2 lbs per gallon) you will have plenty of surface area for the bacteria to do their thing.

:welcome to nanotank.com.

since this is my first attempt, I don't have anything in specific other than soft corals, one or two fish and some cleaners...Basically I'm going to take this slow, start with easy things and give myself the best chance at success...This site looks great!, thanks for the help..

in terms of water circulation am I ok with the HOB filter or should I look at something like the Koralia powerhead? or both?..Not sure how important it is...

circulation is pretty important. Jesse just picked up the Koralia Nano and he seems to be pretty happy with it. I would definitely do something in addition to the HOB. most people go for about 10-20 x tank volume for their turn over rate. I've seen one nano that had 130 times an hour. really depends on the coral. just compare the ocean to the lake in terms of water movement.
