HEllo all, first timer on these boards.

I recently recieved a 30 gallon which is currently cycling so i can move my stuff from the 10 to the new 30. With a free 10 gallon tank i decided i wanted to make a nano. But im not exactly sure what to get.

I know ill need live rock, and live sand which they sell at the pet store not far from here. My question is lighting. After i get this 10 gal cycled and get a cpl clowns in there, i would like to add some colorfull coral and such. So ill need enough light for that, but what is the best light for me to get.

Also at the pet store the live sand comes in bags that have water in them, of course. How many of these bags will i need for a ten gallon.

THANKS A BUNCH, and sorry for bieing such a newbie.

I have the 2x40 current orbit fixture and I love it. Very nice, the only complaint I would have is the fans are a bit noisy. I just may end up gutting it and putting it in a canopy with 120mm ball bearing fans.

If you tried to use the 2x40 watter on a larger tank, you would have to modify it a little to make it fit, You would have to hang it or muild it into a canopy. You could always do as many of use have done, im sure, and gut it and use the the 2x40 watt lamps in addition to other lights.

HTH,

Jesse

BTW, I dont think I have welcomed you to nanotank.com... so WELCOME!

if you upgrade to a bigger tank youll want to upgrade lighting also. i personally use the agro-alive sand, its what i recommend. you dont need a hood just a glass top if you wish. alot of ppl here go with the open top. HTH

If you are going with a Current USA Orbit fixture (2x40), I just purchased one from PetMountain.com. Had them do a price match with another site, they beat the price, and them lowered the price of all their Orbit fixtures on the site. Shipping is also free on orders over $99... very sweet deal! I had been seriously looking at doing a DIY hood ($14 x 2 for ballast, $20 x 2 for lamps, plus reflectors, switches, moon light, and an enclosure), but at that price I couldn't beat it!
