New tank(s)

Hi, I just recently "inherited" two salt water tanks, a 12 and 24 gallon. My next door neighbor moved out "quickly" and called me over to tell me that he wants me to have them. Well, it was late and my friend wasn't around to help me move them... so I waited the next day and the guy was gone. The 12g had about an inch of water left and a couple pieces of live rock in it. The other was about half full with 2 clowns (still now sure what they are) a blue tang, a yellow tang, and an arrow crab... the filter was left off so it was pretty... "green". I brought it over to my place after losing about a gallon of water in the process. The guy left me a couple bottles of salt water to help me out. I emptied one bottle in the little tank to get it set up... I'm pretty new to this whole thing so bare with me. I let the water clear, then moved the fish over into the smaller tank (just to keep them for a couple of days) They seemed ok when I did this... not that they can complain.. I just saved them from being left there to die. Well a couple of days later, I got the 24g set up, so I moved them in there because it was pretty cramped... I hooked everything up and watch the lights turn on. Well five hours later I come home to find the lights off... I wasn't to concerned... but I kept trying to replug in the wires and turn it on (this is a jbj, which I've been told is notorius for having lighting trouble) so I go to my local fish store. They answer a bunch of questions (I even purchased a cleaner shrimp too). I'm just concerned about what to do next.. I mean the fish aren't too small... the tangs are about 3-4 inches and the lager clown is about the same. There are a bunch of snails and crabs running around doing what they do best... eating. I even had the the honor of finding a 7 inch fire worm under one of the rocks! I learned a itchy lesson that day. Well, they seem happy, they get along great. The cleaner is very friendly and likes to clean my hand when I'm putting a couple leaves of greens in for them to snake on. One main question is, the blue tang has a silvery layer of something on it's face... not sure what it is?... but it doesn't bug it. My other is, is the lighting going to be an issue, and if so... what is wrong with it? Again, it's a jbj so I guess I dont know to much about it. HELP! :wors:

Ya you may want to get the lighting fixed.
WHat are the watts on the light.
Also It may have something to do with you having to many things plugged into one area causing it to surge.

Also hold off on buying anymore livestock until every thing is in check and the tank is stable.

36 watt combo bulbs (straight from the jbj website!) one of the fans isn't working either. I was thinking it might be the ballast.

Okay, I figured out what type of clowns they are, they're Maroon Clowns but it says they're a gold striped variety lol. They're a really dark red, almost brown, with obviously golden stripes . I still cant figure out whats wrong with the lighting... and the fish aren't exactly small lol

if it's just fish in the tank you can wait for a few days to fix it. If you have coral you will want to get it fixed asap.

The problem is I dont know whats wrong, or how to fix it... where would I go to address the problem? Also, it's been like this for about a week... just curious as to how long I can go without lighting? I have the lights on from the 12g which is right next to it... thats giving off a little light.
