New tank... need some input on lighting and few other things

Hello everyone my names coskun ;D.
I am keeping a frontosa colony and so on in my 4ft tank, but as i read freshwater and saltwater are two different worlds.
I understand about the water basics and i know perfectly what the nitrogen cycle is. I understand the requirements in starting a saltwater tank but im not sure what lighting i need.
Im planning on doing a 10gL Nano tank... i have a Aqua clear 20 and a whisper 60 hang on filter what do you recommend would be better? obviously the whisper 60 but in terms of water movement... it will be a FOWLR tank, no coral because this is my first attempt at marine and i dont want to loose alot of money on attempting first go... but as my tank is cycled and so on i plan to add coral, my question is would dual 36w 10K PC lights with reflector and legs be enough sufficient light for any coral to grow in my tank when it is finished cycled and up?. Also if so what type of corals?.. can you point some out.. there are so many i cant make my mind up hehehe.

Thank you :D

well with a ten gallon tank your going to get very angry with your water cemistry very quickly. the filter is up to you but yes i would choose the bigger one and use the aqua clear as a hang on the back refugium. the lighting is good with about 3.6watts per gallon and a shallow tank choice you should be able to keep some good corals. 50/50 lights would be better but if moneys tight from the get go hold on till before the corals. fish i would say would be kept to no more then two. DONT GET MAD BUT KEEP IT AT TO SMALL ONES!!!! i would say maybe a gobie and a damsel...bullet proof or just maybe simply a royal gramma. oh :D corals...mushrooms...finger leathers toadstool leathers and some zooanthids(polyps)... you could even try a curlycue anenome or condy :!: :!: :!: fun fun happy fish keeping

;D

Thank alot for the info..haha i just realised that i have a Aquaclear 150.. i lost the hood but i found it again.. what luck ;D... im in Australia so its tough for me to get my hands on live sand.. i havent seen anyone selling it anywhere here.. I can get Caribsea fiji pink aragonite.. but its not live... also does live rock require lighting?.. just a curious question.. because i want the tank to be cycled with live rock.. while its cycling, can i run a normal fluro on it? or is it useless.. i can get the money for the PC lighting while its cycling.. also im sort of thinking of a refugium tank...everyone says siphoned water is a no no.. overflow is the way to go..but is it ok siphoned? i know if the pump in the refug. fails it will drain the tank but if the tank is on the same water level as the main tank.. wouldnt the siphon die down and eventually stop preventing it from leaking? and last but not least! chemi-pure.. would i need it?.. i can get it.. but do you think it would do good for me?... Thank alot for helping me out.. ive been steered around in diff. directions... :lol3:

its better not to run lights during the cycling period, it will keep you from having any algae problems during this stage and after. i would only use chemi-pure if you run into problems with your water parameters.

tank

Hey guys heres the tank.. added abit of live rock, im going slow its better for me and better for the tank ;D... as you can see the whisper 60 on the left and the Aquaclear 150(refuge) on the right with the Resun 200 magic jet and the heater ...i calculated my filteration rate and it came to about 24 times/hour which is pretty good... will be adding more live rock next week and maybe a damsel or a chromis and see how the guy runs... lights will be ordered next week they are 2x40w PC's going to buy the 50/50 from another place.. :lol3: ....im still lookin for a smaller version propellar for the AC 150 to slow down the rate so ..hopefully that would be found to ;D
