My nano cube 6 is less than a month old and developed a pressure crack from a tinny air bubble on the the lower right side of the glass. I carefully inspected the tank many times before and I had never noticed any cracks or bubbles. This tank is perfectly leveled and when I contacted JBJ lighting today they admitted some tanks are defective. They said they will send me 2006 model right away. I just hope the new tank arrives soon, because this one can start leaking any time now :(

awww man!! So so sorry to hear it bro! When I got mine, the worst I got was just a "scratch" which is common as I've seen. My tank however does not have any cracks. What's so different in the 2006 model? Thicker glass? Newer mods? What do you know??

Also leads me to think what year the model is being offered in the monthly contest here....

As long as the tank doesn't leak until the new arrives, I'll be happy with a replacement tank.

Apparently the only tank with thicker glass for 2006 is the 24 gallon with 5mm of glass thickness. The 6 and 12 gallon will have 4mm, but they have added a surface skimmer to all cubes and replaced the stock pump with a lower energy consumption and heat production. The new cubes will also be packed with molded styrafoam and will come with a serial number and a mark stating date of production.

Here is a link with more details on the new models coming out:

holy crap, look at that pump, 166 GPH? Wow, seems like another upgrade, and I can remove the mini-jet 606. Low consumption in heat, very awesome. Do you think they sell that pump seperately ?? I'll be talking to my LFS first and if they cant get them, I'll try ordering from JBJ.

Yeah man, according to the specs it seems to be a good pump upgrade.
If the new tank arrives as promised I will be comparing both pumps as far as flow, heat and noise are concerned and I'll keep you posted. (Minijet 606 vs. PF-400)

JBJ lighting does sell replacement parts for all their aquarium products and definitely the new upgrades should be available soon.

P.S. I did have an over heating problem with a pump from a Nano Cube 12 gallon (original model) back in 2003 and JBJ did send me a replacement pump at no cost.

I reported a defective tank to JBJ Lighting on Nov. 10th and sent them pictures of the defective glass and a copy of my receipt. The next day I called them and the representative told me the tank would be shipped the next day.

Up to now I have received no written explanation about my claim, so today I called them to see what's going on... They told me that the picture wasn't convincing enough (The picts are posted above). I explained to them that there is an air bubble in the side glass where a micro crack originated from, but they told me that from the picture it looks like a glare and that there is nothing they could do.

In my opinion the way they handle there claims it totally unprofessional. How can a company determine if you have a defective glass with a micro fracture from a picture. Even with professional photography equipment it's almost impossible to determine that from a picture. I assume they wait until your tank busts and you loose all your livestock, so the picture can be convincing enough.

I am very upset about this and I am considering selling all my JBJ tanks and getting an oceanic cube.

Since JBJ Lighting 6 month warranty was totally unreliable with my brand new defective NC6, I decided to get a bigger tank for xmas... I really hope this doesn't happen, but in case of a future disaster, I still have a place to house what's left it. For now it hasn't developed any leaks and I added a frog spawn coral and a tiny yellow goby about two weeks ago.

I love my nano cubes, but I ran out of room in my 24G and I am concerned about how reliable the NC6 is now with a micro fracture.

I really missed having a larger tank I am looking forward to this new project.
As soon as I have some pictures I'll make a post to see what you guys think :)

Picture Update from my NC6

I got a frog spawn and a yellow goby about one month ago, but hadn't gotten a change to shoot some picts yet. The yellow goby decided to get shy today and didn't want to show up in the picts :)

I also fraged some xenia and transferred some polyps from my NC24 to this tank.

Here are the new pictures

Thx DJ... This is the first coral I added and it's seems to be doing well in this tank so far. Now I am going to let the tank mature a bit until it's time to add something else :)
