NEW Sea Apple Question

Ok I've read all about sea apple's and their nuking power, etc. What no one seems to mention is how active they are in the tank. As a filter feeder are they primarily stationary or do they move around a lot?

In other words, do they sit like a pretty colored lump or are they interesting to watch?

I believe they mostly sit there. However they'll move if they don't like where you put them. I haven't tried one in any of my tanks, just didn't figure the risk was worth the pretty color.

I have owned one in the past. I had him my 12 gallon eclipse mini reef many years back.

I purchased a really small one, because it seemed so neat. I remember placing him a one part of the tank against the rocks and his little yellow legs will stick to the rock and brace himself.

If he decides to move, he will and he'll find the current, then the real fun begins, they filter the water with a little branch, they have like 6 small little branches that have texture and color.

As it filters the water, it extends the little branch in it's mouth, the center and swallows it clean. It's like watching a little boy or girl eat candy and lick each finger clean.

Since you willnot have a lot of other corals in your tank, this little guy might be what you want.

Good luck

Thanks!

I have one more question though (interesting how the more research you do the more questions arise).

Since sea apples/ cucumbers are supposed to be fed phytoplanton several times a day, is it possible to use an automatic feeder? I know the feeders work for flakes, pellets, and frozen foods, but what about phytoplanton?

Once in awhile I go away for about 3-5 days and while I can have someone come in once or twice to check on the tank I don't have anyone that could feed it twice a day . . .

:thanks (Again)

I would not recommend the sea apple if your schedule is what you stated. As you already now, they are a ticking time bomb if they die and you will risk your tank crashing and killing the apple.

Stick with something that will work with your traveling....

*Sigh I guess I won't add a sea apple right now. Their beauty and unusual characteristics made them so appealing . . . but not practical for right now.

I think I'll stick to getting a frogspawn and 2 clownfish.

Nadia,

Now that sounds like a plan. You will have an awesome setup, cannot wait to see you getting started. Good luck. And remember to take lots of pics.
