Well, I went to the LPS to have a water test today- Ammonia was fine but nitrates were on the rise so no clean-up crew for another week. Anyway, Here is a couple pics of my tank with all the live rock in place. Didn't come home empty handed, Installed a Rio 50 power head in the top back left of tank to go along with the maxi jet 900. (Is this a o.k. location for this power head? P.S. Tank is 17 days old today. When I was told to be patient, You guys weren't kidding! This is killin me. Still like to
look at the rock with the li
ght on at night!!

SOme people help it along with a fish, Its a Hardy fish. Speed up the proses before you start putting the big buck stuff. (Im new to this, This is what the LPS told me to do)

OH ok, I'm a newbie too. Was a little thrown off by the live fish. I've heard dead shrimp or urine will work too. Whatever works, right? :loon:

My opinion is that adding a fish doesnt help the cycle...you are adding extra bioload to a tank that is already trying to balance itself out. There is plenty of dead and decaying matter on LR whether it is cured or uncured.

Some people go as far as adding a small amount of URINE to their tank to introduce ammonia to help spark the cycle...all unncecessary IMO.

But great looking start...nice rockwork...but I hope you are not attached to the rockwork if you plan on removing that chromis. It will not be very easy to get him out w/o removing all the rock.

If I were to have a nanocube, i think that I would place the powerhead a couple inches above the sandbed on the left side pointing directly at the front glass. This will create a current that will help move detritus off the sand into the water where it can be removed by the filter as. I would have the current from the powerhead and the current from the return in the upper right cross paths...creating a random flow in this manner is beneficial to fish and corals.

yeah alot of people put a fish to help in the cycle so you get some amonia but like jesse mentiones is not needed cause of the live rock... but i guess people do it cause like me i was bored of staring at the LR so i decided to got some damsels like you did henry and after the cycle was done ..they were meant to be out of there ....but wasnt an easy job again like jesse mentioned i had to take all my LR out cause those buggers are really fast and sniky...so good luck when you take him out of there. and also you stold my setup  my pump is located in the same area everything looks the same the only difference is that you dont have a surface skimmer ....copy cat   J/k  looks great....

thx you for sharing that idea jesse when i ask you about placing the pump...... but is fine .....ooohh well....

about that sound like a great idea... you should try it timm but also i didnt get the last part about HAVE THE CURRENT FROM THE POWERHEAD AND THE CURRENT FROM THE RETURN IN THE UPPER RIGHT CROSS PATHS...

It is a good idea to have the two currents "collide" so that a random current is created where they come together.

Ed, if it was your tank set-up That I was looking at or copied THANKS! If not it was someone else's. By the way my surface skimmer is coming next week! LOL I found it on e-bay 25 buck exspensive but it is ajustable to work with the flow from the new return pump. Also got my clean-up crew today! About 50 pcs total. Pep shrimp Emerald crab. The kid gave me some extra because I had 2 friends buy about 1500 bucks worth of stuff from them the same week I got my tank. Take a pic for you guys later. Reef- Im not sure of what you are saying about the pump set up? Not enough room to put it on the back wall pointed towards the front?

yeah i was a little confuse that but i got the part of putting it on the back some inches above the sand so the flow will go to the front but the second part i think is to direct it to the front to so bouth pumps are shoting to the front .... i think...... and i dont know who did you copy but it looks great at least i can say you have great test....   anyways looking really nice and also im glad that you got your cleaning crew, you will enjoy then they i kind of funny sometimes....

Yes...thats all I meant. You asked about powerhead placement in you tank so I mentioned haing them both pointing toward the front so that the two different flows converge. I would have the powerhead near the bottom on the lefthand side. Thats all...It can be very tricky sometimes conveying our ideas through text alone...Im sorry :win:

Your tank looks very nice, BTW.

Well, Ive started in on the FRAGS as everyone calls them, And let me tell you- Im finding out just how exspensive this is going to get! I started out with some cheap ones just to be safe. My tank is just over a month old. Stating to get alot of coralline algae? Have 2 shrimps (That hide most of the time) 1 Emerald crab, Many hermitts and snails, And the 2 frags.
