Hi reefers,

I did some rearranging of corals due to fighting, and things are a lot better since I spaced them apart. I hope you enjoy the new pics... Taken with Canon S500, macro...

Mike,
I'm thinking about purchasing the Deluxe as my second tank(already have a 20 gallon), and was wondering if you made any modifications besides the lighting change i read in a previous post of yours. I'm thinkin about just keeping softies, so i'm to sure i'd need to upgrade. Also, what kind of shrimp is that in the fifth pic?? Looks awesome.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi FireFish,

I'd be happy to give you some feedback on my tank. I have a 12 gallon nano cube deluxe. It came with stock 48 watts of power. I ran it for about 1 month with many exotics. For example, the blue clam you see, the frog spawn, the candy coral and the pulsating xenias.

I probably wouldn't have upgraded but then I saw this great web site just dedicated for JBJ cube fanatics like me. It's ran by a fellow reefer named Chris, and his site is www.nanocustoms.com.

It was here that I jumped up to an additional 20 watts of power with a simple upgrade he offers, very easy to install into your original hood. The idea for me is keep everything as stock on the outside, but have the power in the inside, tucked away so looks are very important for me.

I'm awaiting the new order I placed with Chris for 102 watts of power. Currently I'm running 78 watts. The prices are fair if you like the look on the nano and you want more exotics inside, it's worth it.

Dragon79 has just started a 12 Nano Cube Deluxe and will probably with time upgrade as well.

The cool looking shrimp you saw is called an anenome shrimp. He is very cool, non agressive and when I stick my hands in to aquascape, he now trusts me like a cleaner shrimp and starts cleaning my hand. They are very cheap to buy, only about 9 bucks.

I have other cool critters in the tank but they are shy, they are:

1 sexy shrimp
5 small blue leg hermit crabs
8 nacirrus snails
2 small brittle stars (hich-hickers)
1 red banded goby
1 pistol shrimp
1 yellow gumdrop
1 six line wrasse
1 small red stripped goby (hides a lot)
2 feather duster worms

Any other questions feel free to ask....

it's amazing how...

you have all those critters living in there, but with that filter you got going on I guess it's easy to maintain, and they dont poop as much like my bi-color blenny. Well I tell ya mike, I dunno about any light upgrades, but as it is now, with stocks the temp can come up to 81 degrees, and when I wake up in the morning it's 77 as it should be with heater keeping things constant. Only thing I care about is how keeping the tank clean for Sandra's sake (my g/f) That device is cool what you own, and that would be the next investment I think. Sandra also starts picking up corals she likes and mushroom and what not to decorate her tank how she likes it. Well like I said, little by little I am doing less so she can take it over. You know I am going with the pico .75 for sure. I'll let it cycle for a month, see how the water quality is, then start getting little things here and there and set it up at work. Well I'll catch you later.

About that shrimp, i was wondering if it had to have a symbiotic relationship with an anemone to be happy. Really want one, but i don't want to add an anemone to my 20 gallon at this point. When i get the 12 gallon Deluxe set up, i plan on keeping a Bubble Tip, so i guess i could purchase the shrimp then. Any info. would be appreciated, thanks.

regarding the Shrimp...

No you don't have to have an anenome for him to be happy. When I purchased him at my LFS, he was all alone.

Once I added him to the tank he became happy and started exploring all his new surroundings. What he does require is a lot of little hiding places he can go to if he's scared.

Also he likes to hang under corals, the hard skeleton part. He just cruises around and eats what he can find and ejoys eating flakes or any other supplements you might toss in.

I highly recommend him for a nano cube. Just make sure you don't have larger shrimps in there, like coral banded or large cleaner.

Hope this helps out..

That helps alot. The cleaner shrimp i had in my 20 gallon just died after around 10 months, so i'm lookin to add a new one. I was just gonna purchase another cleaner, but the anenome shrimp is amazing looking. i think i'll ad one to my 20, and to the 12 gallon Nano when it's set up and cycled. Thanks alot.

Mike-
i've decided to go with the Nanocube Deluxe as my second tank. i'm in Houston, and i haven't seen it around any LFS around here, so i was wondering if you could post some good sites that i could purchase the deluxe from. i've searched a little, and the cheapest i've seen for is $139.00, you know of any cheaper?? Any help would be appreciated, THANKS.

incysor/djconn-
was wondering if either of you have seen the JBJ cubes at any LFS around town. i've looked at Aquarium World and B&B, and they don't carry them. if you know of any carriers, please PM as soon as possible......THANKS!!!!

Hey Leaf,

Glad that you are making a choice in the nano world and excited that you would get a JBJ nano cube. I would highly recommend you lookin online at www.nanocustoms.com. Chris is the owner and helped me a lot with modification on the lights.

He is having a special on the 12 gallon nanocube deluxe for I believe $129 so I believe thats the lowest I've seen it. I paid 149 for mine, 3 months ago.

The pictures you see on this particular post is with my first upgrade of 78 watts PC.

Thanks Magnolia,

I had had a bad problem with the frog fighting with everyone. Incysor gave me some goods tips and I went with them, and well this was the result.
