How deep is this hex? This is where hex tanks can be hard to adapt to reefs, they are not very wide but can be deep making lighting all but impossible unless you want a MH pendant. Give us the dimensions of your tank and we can give you a better answer.

Nope...that lighting is nothing on top of a 20" deep tank. IMO, a 20" tank is grounds for metal halide. PC lighting, especially only ~43 watts just cannot penetrate that much water. And seems how the tank is only 15"wide, you cant really fit a power compact fixture that has any punch either. Hexs also have the downfall of lacking sufficient surface area for necessary gas exchange, etc.

i hope that this helps. I would suggest picking up a AGA 10 gallon tank at your local fish store for ~$10 and you will be much happier. Its 20"Lx12"H and you can fit a fixture like the Coralife 20" "Quad" that will give you 96 watts of lighting...then you will be able to keep most any coral...other than high light-demanding corals.

and... WELCOME to nanotank.com

Thanks for the welcome

i have in there at the moment some Zoanthus which seem to be doing well i have spent so far about £1000 so the thought of getting a new tank is out of the question

the main problem i have is that i cant get a lot of watts in there because only the 9" pc tubes will fit if any 1 knows of a 9" pc that is brighter please let me know

cheers

I guess you could build a canopy and see just how many of the 18 watt PCs you can fit in there, the main problem is that you will still only be able to keep low light corals at best. Like already mentioned hex tanks are just not user friendly when it comes to lighting them.
