I just discovered I have 3 or 4 of these things crawling around in my tank. They are all pretty long. Does anyone know what these are, and more importantly, will they do anything bad?

It's kind of hard for me to see the picture, but it might be a bristleworm? They tend to hitchhike on live rock.

for a picture of one. They can be bad for the reef when they get large, eating some corals and/or clams. They are usually harmless, however and scavenge, when they are small, so it's up to you if you want to get rid of it.

thanks for all the replies!! Yes, that pic that dollarz posted is EXACTLY what is in my tank... only there are at least 3 of them - all 3 were out & about earlier when i took the pic. So, I don't have any clams (or pretty much of anything for it to munch on!)... but dollarz you said they are good.... what exactly makes them good? oh, and are they gonna multiply like crazy if i don't get them out of there?

They are good in that they scavenge for uneaten foods, debris, etcs. You dont have to worry about them eating anything unless they get big. And no, they shouldnt multiple. Are these 3 in your .75 gallon tank?

I will disagree with wizord. They will multiply like crazy if you overfeed. They can actually over-multiply. Just do not overfeed.

Wow, you two are quick! :)
wizord: YES, these things are all in my .75g (which flame says is actually .5) & there may even be more. Now I'm scared - I just went over and saw 3 sticking their heads out of the rock. It's weird that I've never seen them before... I saw a small one in the sand like a month and a half ago, and now they're all out.

What do you mean by overfeed? What do they eat? I don't put anything in my tank except water right now... but they seem to be growing, and maybe even multiplying
