NanoCube Lighting Problem

I have a 12G Nanocube and it appeared the light burned out, but only after about five months. I went to replace it and it appeared to work initially, then I turned it off to put the plastic shield back on and by the time I was done with that, the light didn't work any longer. I would unplug it from the wall, disconnect the wire connectors and reconnect and every once in a while it would flash like it was trying to turn on (even unplugged from the wall)! Could this be a problem with my ballast? If so, does anyone know if I would have to replace the whole hood or just by a whole new ballast piece? Thanks for your help.

Yep. It could also be a short someplace in between the ballast and the lamp, or the oulet and the ballast. Either way it's defective. I'd take it back to the LFS you got it from, or contact JBJ directly if you ordered it online.

Many of the older 12 gal Cubes have been having that problem.
Balast issues. My LFS has 4 of their display Cubes open with MH lights hanging over them right now while the hoods have been sent to JBJ for repair.
Your best bet I am told ,would be to contact JBJ do see what they will do for you.

Thanks everyone, for their help. This was a given to me by a friend, and though it was new, it was sitting at her house for a while so I believe I am out of luck. Looks like I may be buying a new tank as I bet the hoods cost as much as a new tank!
