So I finally took some vacation days since I haven't seen my parents since the beginning of this year (I live in bay area and their in Las Vegas). I checked my parameters and filled the tank to the very top so there wouldn't be a water level problem. Did my water changes 25% add all my chemicals iodine, calcium drip, strontium and molybdenium, kalkawesser drip etc... I left on Sunday after feeding them and had my girlfriend feed them wednesday with a liquid formula, while an automatic feeder feed them once a day light flakes.
I came back yesterday afternoon and manually turned on the lights since it wasn't 6pm yet (turns on automatically at 6pm). EVERYTHING LOOKED DEAD OR BARELY OPENED :cryinga: My fish were barely moving but rather hiding in the rocks and didn't come out after 2 hrs. I couldn't understand what was happening with my tank! I then went to my skimmer checking to see if it were working, looked at my drip system, looked at my powerheads, checked my parameters (but not with my digi-lab). Thats when I saw a frag upside down and went to put it right side up.... SO I began to put my arm into the tank and it was cold!!!!! :burningup I rushed down to see the sump and the digital temp and it showed 62 degrees.... I shut down the power and checked on the heater itsself. The heater used was a Jager 250 watt which was previously used for my freshwater tank. The red light was on nor was it warm! No cracks nothing.... it was just submersed in my sump with cheato..... I went to superpets to get a visi-therm stealth 250 and speeded back. After an hour and temp came back to 78 degrees. After that I just said to myself it would just take time to see what survives.
Its midnight the following day and I'm just looking at my colonies and frags. I lost 50% of my frags and colonies of mushrooms, zoos and palythoas. MOST disappointed is my devils armor (some call it a armagedon) and armor of god frag was dead.
So if anyone wants to sell any frags I'm all ears.... I'll pay for shipping and for the frags itself! Actually it all depends on what the price is! I needed to tell this story cause I NEEDED to vent and to let everyone know not to neglect their heater especically if its a older model (like mine)! Please PM me if you have anything to offer or respond to this topic. Thanks
