My new firefish

Check these guys out. My newest addition to my 20 gal. They are getting along fine with my 6 line wrasse. They seem to move together all the time and stay pretty close to each other which if fun to watch. Anyone else have much experience with firefish? Any feeding tips?

I don't have firefish experience, but have read that they're jumpers, so keep that tank covered!

The real reason I'm posting is to say: Holy Cow! Those are great pics! Gorgeous fish and corals!

They're gonna want meaty foods that are in the water column. Enriched brine, cyclopeeze, mysis, that kinda thing.

I've got a pair of purple ones in my 75. They're really very cool. One of my favorite things is that they both 'go to bed' a few minutes before the lights go out each night. They have a small crevice on the sandbed against the rock that they both wiggle into. As noted by others, they tend to be jumpers, so if you have an open top, or the back of your canopy is open I'd use some eggcrate to seal it off if possible.

I just added one to my 12 nano. At the lfs two were in the tank. When he went to net one, one jumped into another tank and the other one jumped out on the floor. Since it's been home it loves thawed shrimp and eats formula one. When I work in the tank, it just goes and hides in the reef behind the rock. It also sleeps there. He won't come out until the light is on. Even if I'm a couple hours late turning on the light, like the weekend. I also leave the lid open at night and no suicide attempts to date. :blob

I have the "regular" firefish not the more expensive purple firefish. He eats frozen shrimp and formula one. Bad thing about this firefish, after he became comfortable with the tank, he now dives for cover at any sudden movement. He comes back out after 30-60 seconds but he has taught the other fish to be scared of my apporach. I am getting rid of him as soon as I can catch him. He is just too nervous and freaking out everything else in the tank. Oh yeah, I paid 16.99 for him in Columbus, Ohio.

Funny you mentioned that, my girlfriend has one purple firefish, and when there is movement, boom! it darts into a hole. I think the problem is that it's a loner firefish, and I've read they do better in pairs.

I paid like $9 each for my firefish. I had them for quite some time and noticed one missing. Then, about a week later, the other was gone. I think they both jumped out of my tank and my kitty might have gotten a nice little snack. :fu

I had one disappear in my 75 gallon reef. No idea where it went...

My other one jumped out and got eaten by my mini weiner dog.

am i correct in assuming a purple firefish and a false perc (both small) are too much for my 5.5 i fell in love with the purple firefish when i saw it in person, and at only 21 bucks its not a horrible deal...
