here's the new tank. all the stuff from my 2 (you can see it in the pico section) is going in here once the cycle completes. i've got 2 pieces of crappy tonga, a rio 200 PH and a coralife 36watt fixture. i just finished the stand and canopy yesterday. they didn't quite turn out like i'd hoped but it's ok.

thats the way tonga looks a lot of the time when you get it - it doesn't have the "life" that figi, marshal, and some of the others do but it will purple up very nice and realativly quickly, and its awesome for structure building. Get a piece or two of figi, build a bridge or an arch and wait and see........ very nice start and I agree stain the canopy and it will be nice, pine is very light so a nice cherry stain and your in :)

yeah that's what i was saying. not that i didn't like the shape but that it's just white. no color. it'll look better over time though. i actually liked the color the wood already was. so i put a natural stain with a couple of polyurethain coats on top. i really wasn't worried about what it looked like. i already had the stain and poly so saved a few bucks. it was the function that i wanted. to lift it up off of my desk and something to hold my fixture up (it was too small to just set on top of the tank).

what do you guys think about keeping clams under pc? i've got 7.2 watts per gal now. (i know that WPG isn't all that you need but just hear me out) i was thinking about trying one of the easier clams such as a derasa or squamosa. i could add an extra bulb if needed. it would push me up to 46watts total (9.2 /gal). i'm just curious about it.

honestly your a long way from having clams. wattage really doesnt count for nanos. youll need intensity, like with MH. you might be able to get away with it but not for another 6 months.JMO. some of the other guys and gals might be able to give you more advise.

I have 32wX2 under my 5.5 (64watts) and I don't think I will try a clam. That is just my opinion though. I had 130w over my 20 and kept a clam for over a 1.5 yrs and it was as healthy as can be so go figure.

MH would def. be the solution if you really wanted clams in your nano.

well here's everything in it. i picked up a few extras along the way and am looking to get a few more things. mainly just some supercolor zoa's and a green clown goby. i found a blue coral banded shrimp that was only about 1/4", some zoa rocks for cheap, a green finger leather, and a candy coral head that has split into 4. all this has rounded it out pretty nicely. now just for those zoa's... :D

Very nice looking setup.
I'd weigh in with the others on the clam question. 46w simply isn't enough to keep one alive for long. Watts-per-gallon is a USELESS measurement. I kept a crocea under 130w for over a year before losing it in a move. Even that was cutting things close, and I had to be very diligent about changing the bulbs every 10months or so, to keep them at peak output.

i've heard it called red grape caluerpa and red kelp. it's a slow grower, although i don't have much fuel for it (nitrates-3, phosphate-undetectable). but yeah i like it. i did have a piece that was at least 1.5 feet tall and about 1 foot across but i put that in my FOWLR and my trigger made a mess of it. it's in the fuge on the way to recovery now.
