the middle of the tank is 15" wide and im using a 10k bulb that came withthe fixture although I am thinking about going with maybe a 14-15k bulb so it doesnt look so white cause even with the 192 watts of atinic it still has a real white/yellowish apperance.

being its already up and running no i probably wont paint it but will be putting a black background on there just didnt have one handy when i set it up i will be adding the wet dry filter this weekend and trying to figure out how to add a fuge into the mix being i know i dont have alot of rock in there but my bioload will be pretty heavy with fish and inverts and i plan on adding a clam in the future and some more SPS so i want to keep the water as stable as i can. will definitly keep the pics coming as the changes happen. its so weird to look at this tank its so much more diffrent then my old 10gal even though it has nothing new in it except a little more sand tats about it. but thank you and check back often

Not much new to update I had to exchange my light both the PC ballsts went on me so I swaped it out with the guy I got it from he happened to have 2 of the same lights and this one has the 20k bulb in it ( jesse was right if anyone is looking at changing spectrums of bulbs go with a 14-15k the 20's are really blue)(although they do make the colors of your corals pop) and I also added a sump its only about 10gal's or so but every gallon of water adds more volume so I thought what the heck its run off of a mag 5 pump and since the sump is so small im keeping my protein skimmer on the back along with my ac 70 (thats getting turned back into a fuge) so im looking at a flow rate of my entire system to be somewhere around 750-800 gph on a 46 gallon tank so I personally dont think that is to bad although not sure how to figure out how many times the system volume turn over that is but It should be pretty high. anyway pics will come soons there is a little more to show gotta start adding some more rock.

new photos

ok heres some new photos not much has changed assed a wet dry filter/sump which bumps my flow up to 902gph and a turn over rate of around 19.6x's an hr which isnt to bad went from a 10k to a 20k HQI bulb not sure i like it though so im thinking of trying somthing inbetween and had to do a little aquascaping thanks to my emerald crab but now on to the pics:

sorry got a little carried away with the pictures but hey better to have to many then not enough I always say :)

Hope you dont mind... I deleted your double post.

Your tank looks awesome! Keep an eye on that tulip anemone in the pic with the xenia... they can spread and get outta control! HAve you considered making your sandbed deeper? It would serve a couple purposes... it would create an area or anaerobic bacteria and also cut down on the distance the light has to travel to get to the bottom... llike Mike G.'s tank.

With the transition from a 10k to a 20k lamp, your are losing a ton of PAR... probably close to half of what you had with the 10k. Take a look here to compare the various MH lamp/ballast combos... http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/

I love your electrical outlets..., I wanted to do something like that... guess Ill wait till I get a larger setup

Keep us updated!

No I dont mind thank you I ment to do it then the computer locked up and forgot to go back. as far as the sand bed yeah I will probably add to is later down the road but right now I am looking at getting the lighting back to where I want it then I will either work on the sand bed or get more rock one of the two I mean I like the open tank look but Not so much that it looks like a pebble in the middle of a lake either. as far as the electrial panel I had that on the 10gal I had it makes it nice then you dont have extension cords or power strips running from all over the house not to mention a little safer then over loading a power strip keeps every thing neat and tidy. Your the man with alot of ideas let me shoot a question your way I want to add a refuigm to the tank with out the head ach of another pump (less heat so on) so I was thinking like a gravity type system with putting the refuge ontop of the sump and gravity feed it back to the sump but how do I supply the refuge with water with out adding a pump and I think the drain from the over flow would be a little to much preasure to have it fed directly into the fuge could I put like a "Y" on the drain line and split it so part of it goes to the fuge and part continues on into the sump bypassing the fuge? (not sure if im making any sense to anyone) let me know thou if need be ill come up with a plan and post a pic of it on here

WHAT IS IT?

Your tank looks great. You should be proud. What is the turquoise and brown coral that you showed? It is beautiful!
