My first tank

i have one

hey i have the same tank as u and its doing great...I only have the light u have but i dont have as much sand...It takes away fromt the water volume. I have found that the best way to keep the water quality high is by adding macro algae. Since it absorbs the Ammonia the fish or corals produce it helps keep ammonia, nitrite and nitrate low and right now i have a small leather, and flowerpot, coral banded shrimp, yellow tailed damsel and of course macro algae...Balance is the key...but i do find myself toping the water off every day...

i saw a newer design pico

I think it may be just a gallon. I have to pull up specs, but all I know it's made by redsea and it's rectangular as opposed to squared. It costs more, but I think it's worth it. I'm trying to get a pic, but have found none online. I'll go to the LFS that has it and see about getting a pic with my digital camera.

The only one's I've seen by Red Sea that are even close to what you're describing are glass tanks. One has wavy front/back panels. The other one has straight front and back panels, but the bottom panel is wavy.

Dragon,

Go to tongs and find out the brand, so you can shop online. I know an LFS, that has them on sale for $29.99. Regular price is $39.99.

I believe that one is the REDSEA with a seahorse symbol.

I'm not talking about the original square pico by red sea, I am talking along the lines of what Incysor is talking about. Here is a quick diagram I made up in ms paint. This will have to do until I have time to go to Tongs

the second link looks a lot closely to what I am talking about. It may very well be it, but I am sure it didn't have that blue lining. Looks a bit cleaner looking. Weekend is almost here so I'll see about seeing what it is, and also see the actual box it comes in, then I'll let you know.

I think that blue line is a trick of the light when they took the pic. The one's I've seen in the stores were all clear glass. But sometimes when you get the right angle on the end of a pane of glass it appears darker.

Definitely get a pic of it if you can.

Here is a more recent pic. i've added some more rock and everything seems to be more stable now. Flame, today I removed the other pad so hopefully that'll help out with the algae problem. i know i need a better clean up crew... it seems i picked the dud of the hermit pack - all he does is sit on the rocks and bask in the light - no help!!

I know this is late and all, but I was curious to know, with removing both the black foam pad and the white pad that follows, is there anything that needs to fill in the area ? Like some sort of carbon to fit it? I know the LR and LS will grow the necessary beneficial bacteria, but what of having carbon to keep the water clean and clear??

edit: I imagine so, I read another post, and they said some carbon and polyfilter, but with carbon, do you have to make it yourself by buying some and putting them a in a tiny pouch? Or do they sell them made already for tank that small?? As far as poly filter, I know you just cut it to the size of the filter and add it in there.
