Well, in a similar sized tank i'm going for 4 hermits, 2 snails and a shrimp (maybe two if the sexy shrimp doesn't clean to well) also maybe an urchin but this has yet to be decided... That's my personal aim for an 8gal so you may want to push it up a little say 5 hermits, 3 snails?

And sounds like you've still got at least 3 days of waiting i'd say though you never know... What fish are you planning on getting?

hmm as for fish i am not sure i like the Yellow Watchman Goby and maybe a pair of true Percula Clownfish if i can get away with it :)

Hmm, a pair would probably be pushing it from what i've heard, and obviously don't add them both at once, take your time.

Have you looked at other gobies available in your area at all? Because IMO the watchman goby is abit to common and there are some more adventurous gobies out there... (Red-head, hi-fin red-banded etc...) ...However if you do go for the watchman i believe they pair nicely with a randall's pistol shrimp although you would have to check that with the other users which would make for a nice addon to any tank...

well my LFS has the Court Jester Goby, Neon Gold Goby, Hector's Goby ,Hi Fin Red Banded Goby, Orange Stripe Prawn Goby, Red Head Goby, and the Orange Spotted Goby but for some reason the watchman goby cought my eye :) but i am not sure on the fish yet i also like the Purple Firefish

Hmm, they're all really nice goby's (have you seen them all in person as well? - You're so lucky to have them all to hand, i have to order stuff in 99% of the time) . . .

Personally i'd go for a hi-fin red banded or red head, but that's my opinion yet again not yours. Although i think if you went for the neon gold goby you may be able to get away with two of them...

Maybe you just like bright yellow fish? hehe...

I like firefish as well the thing is i'd say try and get a bottom dweller or someone that's gonna sift up the sand abit...

Indeed, i've just never been impressed by the Yellow Watchman myself, maybe im just not a yellow fan [shrug]... If you can i'd try and get a pistol shrimp to go with the goby, most of your choices would be compatible, as apparently it's fascinating to watch them make a friendship as it were...

Edit - BTW, thinking about it you might want to get about 6 crabs and 4 snails about 1 of these per gallon is a rule i've come up with...

For cleaners I would start with a dozen mixed snails, a combination of nassarious or cerith for the sandbed and astrea, margarita, trochus, or nerites for the glassand rock. If I decided to add hermits then I would start with either 6 red legged or 12 of the blue leg or dwarf zebra hermits. I would stay away from bumble bee snails as cleaners, they do look neat but they are not cleaners, they are carnivores.
I don't usually consider shrimp as part of the cleaning crew even though they do scrounge up uneaten food. You may want to add a shrimp but I would not ad him with the initial cleaning crew. IMO its best to start with a few cleaners and add as necessary to keep them from starving themselves by having too many.
On the fish thing, if you went with one of the smaller gobies (hi-finned, red head, neon, etc) you will have room for more fish numberwise. If you add one or two big fish you may fill your tanks bioload but if you opt for smaller fish you can keep 3 or 4 fish. Just something to keep in mind when planning your livestock list. If you are unsure once you have decided on what you want just post here and we'll do our best to help out.

Skip the catalina goby...he is a cold water species (~70* farenheit).

Firefish are prone to jumping...they are VERY good at it and require an inpenetrable glass top.

true percula is a good choice...one of my favorite clowns.

sorry that im late but after reading everything .... first they say that when introducing a pair of clowns you should put them together cause if you put one first and then the other one will be picking at the other one until stress him to the point of death or you can put one first and when putting the other one ill say move your LR you know move your aquascape when adding the second one but like they say with nemos there is alot of bioload so if you want more fish you should stick only one nemo for you niece and then introduce the pair of YELLOW WATCHMAN GOBY with the RANDALL'S PISTOL SHRIMP they look   amazing i have a pair like that just like dickie but he might get to territorial with other gobies mine did now doesnt leave in piece my other gobies(redhead and greenbanded) so if you really like the yellow watchman go for it they are really cool to watch and even more with a pistol partner

and also about the mix of snails and hermits some NERITE,ASTREA & NASSARIUS will be a nice choice and how many is up to you everyone puts different number of them and go with blue or red legs but dont mix they might fight until just one kind rules....

do im forgetting something mmmm???

ohh i think you mentioned sexy's shrimps well they are so so cleaners ...they dont do a great job but is fun to look at them they are cute.....and go with cleaner shrimps good for parasites eaters...

and like SKIMP said go slow add cleaning first then a week or so an fish next.....if i still miss something im all ears....
