Ok...first off..I hope I am not irritating you guys, but the small nit picky things keep giving me more questions.

My test kit..its a Saltwater Master liquid test kit made by aquarium Pharm. Inc.

The instructions tell me to "match the test solution aginst the test color chart" Maybe I am reading more into this, but how are the accurate readings gotton.

I am holding it aginst the white with no gap between the card. Is this correct?

Yep, Shamefull as it may be, I will ask many more dumb questions due to the fact that I am addicted. I can't wait until I can make any coral purchase.

Thx...I just keep second guessing myself in every aspect. Then there is always a technicallity that I always question myself about.

The test kit is designed to give you a bench mark as to where your tank is during the cycle period, week one, week two, etc...

Then you will use it periodically as you add new editions to your tank...

It tells you whether or not a problem is really their that you can control or fix, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH are factors that a reefer can stay in control of.

i know i have the same problem the should do a chart easy to read like amonia & nitrate cause when is ph and nitrate time i do the same you do try to guess wich one i do both with no gap and see to what color match and then with gap or what i do sometimes is i compare the LFS with my ph with the chart but is kind of hard to know the exact result with ph but nitrate is alittle easier... i other thing i do is second and third opinion if i have someone around.... and also i used to kinds of testers .... liquid and quick deep so that helps me to guess the right parameter....

another good way to know if you are right is to take it to the LFS and compare with yours. i hope this was your question if not i gave a little of no needed info.

We use 2 people to read , kind of a second opinion type thing . If they are in beteween I go with the higher value . Also about 4 times a year I do take them to the lfs to compair with them ,the test kit we use are the aquarium pharma. Not the best test but by far an easier test to do......All you are aiming for with testing is a base line , so that you can detect a problem in the early stages and get ready for a fix ....But remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure .

All posts were helpful...Its just tough to feel positive about most readings...I guess they will be close enough to detect problems, which is really the main idea..
Thanks..

There is alot left to desire with the colors of most test kits, they are pretty hard to read because the colors are so similar for different results. The best kit I have found for pH is a Salifert kit, there is a pretty decnt difference between colors making it the easiest to read IMO. It is nice to have numbers to compare but if my tank appears to have problems I don't rely 100% on test kit results. If something is amiss in my tank it is time for a water change even if the kits say all is fine.
