Mike,

Do you still have the tank? Are you still willing to sell it for $20 plus shipping? I'd be interested in getting it from you, if you can share your expertise in setting it up/maintaining it?

well does anyone know what kind of light he had and were were he got it? I can get one of those tanks for like $12 and I already have a mini heater and a mini filter....all I would need is a light hood and I would be set....

I used the 18 watt coral mini in my pico and the 150 watt in my 6 gallon. My brother now has my 150 watt as he's going to be working on the ultimate 20 gallon reef...

I'm using the 18 watt coralife on my 6 gallon as I decided to stay in the nano world and not give up my tank but rather downsize it to make it more manageable.

did that MH light have a 20k bulb in it? if so how did you like the overall look of the tnak with it?

With the AC20 on there, is it providing enough flow for the tank or will you need to add a power head?

Just FYI there hasn't been a post there in about 2 years. Mike still comes to the board so I'm sure he will eventually answer.

Hi all,

I've been away for some time and wanted to start up my old thread once again. This time with a different twist...

I'm starting up another pico, and with the help of my brother dragon, I should be able to get these mini tanks in your homes...

Yes, with the help of my younger brother, I thought about selling these hot little tanks to all that have what it takes to keep a pico going in their home...

I have found a supplier of the tanks, and will be experimenting with lights and filters to cast the overall, workable pico...

I will be posting some pics over the weekend, as I restart this project that should have happened years ago...

Wow, glad to hear from you Mike. It has been a long time. I actually inquired about your little tank about 6 months ago, but I soon found out the company was no longer running? I started a 5.5g AGA tank and it is running strong. I visited this site frequently, but it never got the attention it needed. For some reason, I stopped by today and found this thread! I am excited that we might be able to purchase these tanks again, I am sure I can find room somewhere, lol. Keep us updated on the progress.

Wow very nice! I have that exact same light fixture on my 5.5. With a room temp of 75 degrees, my tank reaches 80.5 at the end of the 8 hr light period. How high are your temps reaching?

Hey Marty,

I'm working on the temps right now, since the light rest on top of the glass, it does create a lot of heat.

I am placing the light on a timer that can run the light in 4 hour periods throughout the day; end result is temps reaching a high of 84 degrees in a given day.

That is nice for some working adults as they can program the lights to come on during two periods in which they or their love ones will be able to enjoy.

The benefit here also is no need for a chiller; you can run a reef effectively in in a wide range of temps, 75 degrees all the way up to 85, some experts even suggest higher.

Second solution will be the introduction of modifying the light with built in fans, already on the drawing board as I post.

I have contracted out an engineer to do the mod. Once she is complete I will run test.

Therefore there will be options for the reefer who purchases these tanks.

That fan mod sounds interesting, keep us updated. I just installed 2 - 1" dia LED lights containing 9 LEDs a piece. Here is the end result, I am very pleased so far! Sorry for the huge pics.

Hey Marty,

That mod looks awesome, send me a PM on where you got the moon lights and how to mod, I can add that as an option for those that want my pico.

In the last five years there have been advances with Timers, Brinks puts out an awesome timer that allows for up to 6 programs on each individual day.

This is a digital timer so it's accuracy is superb to the seconds, also 5 years ago I had problems with the timers not being able to handle the voltage in amps to this light, end result was the timer reseting itself completely and shutting off.

Today the timer is built in with a three prong gound and has a rated capacity for 15 A resistive loading, 1/3 HP, 500W Tungsten, 120V/60Hz.

That is more than enough to handle the 18 watts Power compact.
