I would like to get some SPS going in my BC 29 and would like to get a MH setup. I am currently lookin at this fixture (Sunpod 20") 150Watt MHbut it does not allow for actinic lighting which I would like.

Here is the link to the fixture

Anyone running one of these. Anyone having heat problems with this fixture?? Any info would be awesome.

Does anyone now of this unit with some PC 65W actinics?? :stonight

The sunpod is a good product from Current USA. The 150 watter would probably work for some SPS. The fixture doesnt come with the pc actinics.

A couple other things to consider for long-term success with SPS is that they have very different needs from LPS and sofites. Corallimorphs should never be kept with SPS as corallimporhs are very noxious. So, if you want SPS, it would be best to keep only SPS.

Also, your turnover flow rate should be at least 40-50x...closer to 70-80x would be best though. So for a 29 gallon, that would put you somwhere around 1,400gph to 2,000gph.

Another thing, unless you can do weekly 40% or soo water changes, you are going to want a skimmer.

I hope this is of some help to you. Flow is just as important as light with SPS.

Do you think I would require a fuge with this type os setup?? what is the main purpose for a fuge?? is it to grow the Phyto and isopods and things like that??

I currently have the stock powerhead and I have added an adition Maxijet 1200 for flow. Should I add some more to make this tank work as SPS and Monti's???

I would like to go with a setup similar to Victria's TOTM November with similar corals. She does not specify too much on hardware though.

A refugium is always a great thing to have especially with a nice amount of macroalgae such as Chaetomorpha, but you dont NEED it. You would want another powerhead or two... maybe even just one Tunze Nano Stream 6025. I have seen those in a 24g biocube and they are perfect for SPS nano's.

Wicked!!! Thanks for the info!!!

Any recomendations for a HOB Fuge??? I will get one of those Nano Stream 6025. They are hard to find in the LFS around me though.

I wanted a Tunze skimmer and they said they don't carry it! I will have to go online I guess

Thanks Reefman!

for a skimmer also check out the remora - very nice product - really like mine
for powerheads the seios are a lot cheaper and the 620's are low watt which will help whith heat issues - not as nice of course (can't run them on a wave maker)and some people report troubles with them but i never have had any after 15 months or so of 24/7 use
that fixture would probably work for you but even though i am very happy with my light set up, i must admit that every now and then, i wish i had gone 250W instead of my 175MH 14K iwasaki with PC actinics - i just would like to see what a 250W 14K hami or phoenix or even a 20K ushio or AB would do..... just for fun you know???
my SPS nano has a built in fuge area where i have a couple extra rocks for frags and some cheato - doesn't really grow though - i think the water is too clean
