Kelvin ratings vary soooo much from brand to brand and wattage to wattage and ballast to ballast that it is very difficult to use that as a basis. A 150 watt DE 14,000k hamilton on a magnetic ballast is less blue than a 150 watt DE 14,000k Phoenix is.

I have personally ran the 70 watt Astalux and it was a nice blue color, not overwhelmingly blue though. The Ushios tend to be more white.

i have the viper light and it works great. in the beginning there where problems with a bad batch of bulbs, now they have it fixed. i have had mine since they came out. really happy with the way JBJ handled customer service. they sent me four different bulbs until it was fixed, never had to pay a dime. only down fall to the set-up is the large remote ballast, its kind of hard to hide under small tank set ups.

I'm not sure what the bad Viper reviews say, but I bought mine used and have been using it for over a year. It works great. :)
