One of my powerheads started making a grinding noise, is it time to replace the impeller?

I've had them going for about 1 year without any problems; they are all plugged onto a Reefkeeper 2 which has soft start.

Any feedback would be great; I don't want to tear into the tank to pul it out until I have an idea what it might be.

Thanks,

MG

i would shut it off and check it out. if its something hard it can ruin the PH, worst case synario the casing breaks open and something leechs into your system.

yep take it apart i had one once that the impeller came loose from the magnet - a little super glue in the right place and its been running ever since - if the "catch" is broken or the magnet cracked, however you may have to replace the impeller. you may be surprized though, sometimes all it takes to quiet them is a good cleaning and making sure the shaft, bushings, and output housing are seated well together.

Thanks for all your feedback, I figured it out. Air had gotten trapped inside the casing and wouldn't let it prime.

Once I tilted the powerhead it spit out all the air it had inside, it was a lot. So now it's working like new.
