making my own sump w/fuge

for those of you who have them or have made one my ? is I would like to have a charcoal filter in it to help reduce toxins so the ? I have is would it be better to have it located before the fuge or after ( between fuge & return pump or between inlet to fuge ) this way it will also help w/ the reduction of bubbles going into fuge....... hope I'm making this clear to understand
also in my design I thought I would add an area comming out of the inlet line drain to cultivate some smaller coral frags & live rock

Any place that the water has to flow through it is a good place. Since all it will absorb isn't the kind of stuff used to feed your refugium you can place it anyplace in the sump. I usually place carbon near the sumps incoming water but after the refugium would be fine as well.
