HOw should i do my Lr in my my tank? i can do either 3 or 4 big pieces of LR with will equal 20+lbs or i can do a buch or small LR rubble say golf ball size or slightly bigger. Right now all i have is 4 big pieces and 3 small ones. Opion time! give me your thoughts, ideas, opions :wh

I think it depends on the shape of the rock. I like large rocks if you can make them look good.

what size tank? 20 gallon? 24 gallon perhaps? Good size pieces should work, but not rubble. Use unique pieces to give it that nice look. good luck.

IMO live rock is a long term investment - quality will get you everywhere. I am very picky when it comes to live rock and hand pick each piece. I like rocks with caves, crevases (sp?), branches, and cool shapes that you can envision a coral sitting on allowing for the fact that the coral will likely have a small piece of rock with it. Also pieces that will allow for stacking in bommies and bridges. My buddy calls me whenever he gets a new shipment of rock in cause he knows I'll be there to get the "pick of the litter" everytime.

I like a variety of shapes/sizes. Too many large pieces and it limits your ability to aquascape, but too many small pieces, and it just looks like a rock slide.

Try to go for the cave look.... There nothing nicer than seeing a reef tank that is original and stands out... Far too many times you see the same thing in reefing... I had a hard time with my tank because of the lack of space,,, I puchased too much and had a hard time fitting everything in....

Less is better is this hobby, since you can always add...

I have about 50lbs cooking now for about 4month in the grage. 60% of my LR is DIY. I had a bought with red turff alage about 5 months ago so i bought 20 new lbs. I guess ill bust my big pieces up into smaller ones.
