I call it Hair Algee oddlly enough, uhh I am shure theres a scientific name for it but I dont know it, it dont think the algee itself is a problem but it might be a sign that your water has a high nitrate content, which is a problem,,,,,,,test your water...if the water tests ok then the only problem is esstetics (spelling) lol but if you dont mind the look then go for it

Thanks

Mostly they feed on Nitrates & Phosphates so check them out and well you can run a phosphate remover....HTH

Hair algae is a nuisance and can spread and choke corals out. There are few fish that eat hair algae so natural control isn't real easy. You need to find the cause and correct it before it gets out of hand. How old are your bulbs and what color temps are they?

I had that same problem Leecrosby. I left for two weeks and my girlfriend told me my whole tank had brown hair like plants growinf every where. I got back "thank goodness" and saw my Zoa's all closed up. Its been 4 days now. I stopped my lights from 12 hours to 6 hours, change my water every 4 days, put in another powerhead for more circulation, sucked up the brown algae or atleast try with a turkey baster, and bought a Algae Blenny. I didn't believe that the Blenny would it the alage but I was just watching him just now and he really does! Maybe that how he got his name ha,ha,ha Good luck and hope this helps. Plus I added Kalkwasser too! If thats how you spell it. Everythings been good so far. One colony half way opened and the other is getting there I hope.

I have seen the Black Sailfin Blenny work on algae and he really goes at it. I can see how they could keep a tank in good shape if other methods aren't working. The black saflin blenny is cheaper than the lawnmower blenny from what I have noticed.
