LIVEROCK

I would try searching classified ads on other sites such as reefcentral.com and nano-reef.com. I know that there are currently a few people trying to sell their LR. you may just have to break it up, which is really easy...and kind of fun...to do.

I have heard good things about liveaquaria.com, too. here is a link to their nano live rock pack...16 lbs of small pieces for $70 (about $4.40 per pound, not bad.)

I have heard nothing but good things about Premium Aquatics LR, they also sell what they call nano-rock which is pieces sized just for nano tanks. If you were to call amd tell them what size tank you want the LR for they can pick pieces that they feel would work the best to fit your tank. Here is a link to their nano-rock: http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant ... e=Liverock .
I haven't bought LR from them but I have bought drygoods from them several times and spoke with them face to face at both IMAC and MACNA and they were willing to go the extra mile to satisfy my needs. They are great to work with. HTH, Skip

PS They also have rubble rock for a good price, I would get a couple of pounds for filling in gaps and for fragging later. You could also get some to put in a hang on filter for added biological filtration.

Do you think that 6 lbs of the nano rock and 2 lbs of the rubble would be good?

EDIT: Or do you think that it would be wise to go with 7lbs of the nano rock and 3-4 lbs of the rubble?

Any other suggestions?

anything right around 10 lbs total would be good. ive never seen the rubble in person, so I dont know how big of pieces they are. It may be better just to go with 10 lbs nano-sized pieces and skip the rubble... unless you are going to ad that to your filtration.

I took a look at that rock that Skip linked and it look outstanding!

From reading the comments, I am pretty sure that the rubble rock is about the size of golfballs.

Its hard to give a weight of rock needed since the density of LR varies alot. Some small rocks are very dense and heavy while you may get a large rock that is very porous and light. If I had to order the LR I would talk to someone and tell them what I wanted it for and see what they recommend according to the LR they have in stock. I would also go a little bit light on the amount in the tank since most of the corals you will want to add will usually be mounted on a small piece of LR. HTH, Skip

PS 9-10 pounds total would be a good place to start but run the amount by the salesperson at Premium Aquatics since they may have very porous LR on hand.

This is kindof a dumb question, but do any of you use anything to protect your hands while arranging liverock? The only reason I ask is because there are fireworms and other poisonous things that could be hiding.

Anyways, the testkits I ordered came and also a broken heater :burningup , the replacement one will be coming in about 4 days. That means I will have to wait to order the liverock, I will keep you guys posted on the progress.

I personally don't use anything to protect my hands but I should especially since I can get all of the medical gloves I want. It really is a good idea to wear gloves when working in your tank not only to protect you but to protect the tank from anything on your hands that did't get washed off. You can get medical gloves in any drugstore, I would get either vinyl or nitrile exam gloves. Don't bother with sterile gloves, you pay alot for more for them and they don't need to be sterile. You can also find a couple of different kinds of gloves available on-line just for aquarium use. HTH, Skip
