Lighting upgrade question

I've never used it but I've heard good things about it. I guess on Reef Central there is a mod to switch the arm around 180 degrees.

That would be a good upgrade, especially with the mod that Tim mentioned. If your not in a hurry to make a purchase JBJ has also come out with a pair of hang on MHs, if I remember correctly theirs are 70 and a 150 watt models.

When does the viper come out? I'm in no hurry to make this mod, just was looking into possiblities on what to get, and I like the look of the hang on lights. But after seeing the JBJ one I think it looks better than the coral life fixture.

I would go with the 70 watt. One of my friends had a 150 over his 24 gallon nanocube and he is having serious problems with his tank overheating. Can't imagine what it would be like with a 12 gallon.

Either one should work but I think the 70 is plenty for your tank. The mushrooms may need to be placed in slightly shaded areas or near the edges of the tank out of the most intense light but they can be acclimated to MH lighting.

I've seen people using a 150w MH for their tank but they had it almost 2 or 3 feet above the tank...seemed like a lot of overkill. I think the 70 should be just fine.

I thought about it, and I really want the Actinic lights and moonlights, because I like doing the dawn/dusk thing and I like the look of the Blue LED's at night, so I'm thinking of doing a 70w MH custom canopy for all of this, I can get the MH kit with bulb for $140 Shipped and then it would be deciding on a wood canopy or doing something like a hanging metal canopy, which I am leaning more towards. Project is still a little ways away, but thank you all for the help in deciding what wattage I should go with. thanks!

After so many years in this hobby, it's amazing to see just how far things have come. It's kinda like the computer world now. :D
