I'm planning on converting my 55 gallon tank to a reef tank. My dealer is making me a damn good deal on Coralife's Aqualight pro. Here are the specs on the light. He's offered it to me for $550. My question is this. Although it's a good price for this light, is it overkill on the 55 gallon tank? It's almost 9W/gallon.
I've never used MH bulbs before and a little concerned about the heat outpput. This system comes with mounting legs, but I can spend a few extra bucks and get the setup that suspends fromt he ceiling. Things I've read have suggested that with MH's I need to have them at least 12 inches above the water surface to keep from heating the water too much, is this accurate. If so I guess I need the suspension kit. What are your thoughts. Can I get away with a cheaper light system and still be able to include SPS's and anenomes in my tank?
