I got a 16"x12"x16" tank for work.
I also got a 150w MH
I am building a hood for this tank so I can fit in the 150w MH.
It will also have 2 computer fans, one blowing air in and the other will suck air out. Fan will be placed between the water line and the MH. The hood will also be open top.
Tank will also have a 9-10G sump.
Getting a chiller that is for 16G max.

Is this project going to cook my tank?

You should be fine. What chiller are you looking into? Is it the ICA chiller? You should be able to do it without a chiller actually... Just put a fan blowing across the surface of the water in the sump and do the fans in the canopy like you mentioned and go from there... that should be plenty of cooling.

Getting a reeflux lamp for it very soon.
Yes I know, we Aussies don't get good stuff like you guys do.

I be having a mix reef tank.

Actually that is a pretty sweet little MH setup. Nanotank.com is really becoming an international site! We have quite a few people from the UK and a couple Aussies. I know there are people from other places of the world too, just cant think of them right now. How is the selection of corals/fish in your area?

Keep us updated.

Our selection are not that great.
Very hard to find good corals.
I have been searching for different colour (besides brown) zoas for my tank for almost 6 months!!! Now I have found a few reds, purple and blue. Just waiting for them to be deliveried next weekend.
I would love to get some nice corals like you guys can get.

That's kinda ironic considering that half of the eastern seaboard of the country is lined by the greatest coral reef in the world, and you are so close to so many natural coral and reef fish habitats.
Not that I recommend gathering from nature, but it is odd that you can probably get a better selection of legal corals and reef fish in Kansas than Cairns!!

I have had that MH running with the chiller for the pass two days. I have a computer fan running in the hood 24/7. This is keeping the water cool. If I turn the fan off the chiller is not able to handle the heat coming from the MH. The MH is about 15cm from the water surface.

chiller is running contantly when fan is off.

I think the pump I got on the chiller is a bit too storng.

Its a 500l/h pump that is ajustable. It set to the lowest. But this still might be too much. Going to get a 300l/h pump next week.
