Led lighting??

Hey,
I am curious to the use of the led(moon) lights. I have a 12g nano dx...I am wondering what the timing of the moon lights should be. I have modified the wiring so I can put the regular lights and the moon lights on different timers and now I have no idea if I am supposed to keep the moon lights on all night or just simulate sunrise and sunset with them?

Any reccomendations?? Thanks in advance.

I just put mine on for the night , and in the am turn on the regular lights IMO they dont really need a timer but you can set it to turn on after your lights go out for the day

Because LED lights use pratically no electricity and last for tens of thousands of hours, some people choose to let them run 24 hours a day. Otherwise, run them the reverse of your daylighting...when your lights go off, LEDS come one...lights come one, LEDs go off.

Yeah, I did want the lights timed, so I didn't have to mess with manually turning on and off, but the led on this thing shares power and there was no simple way to kill power to lights , while eaving power to the leds. Since you guys say its ok for them to stay on all night I can just use one timer for the lights..which still has to be done internally I think.

Thanks a lot.

I have mine on one of the Coralife timers so they are on opposite my regular lights but if I had a different timer I would just run them 24/7.

Mine are also on 24/7 just to lazy to shut them off
:lol3: :lol3: alot of lazy people here :lol3: :lol3: ... i run mine before turning lights off at night only... im afraid that they are gonna burn, brake or run out or something so thats why i dont have them 24/7 only in my freshwater tank the moonlight is 24/7 cause of lazyness too   also 'cause i pay more attention to my 12g cube than the guppies poor little fellows.

24/7 is okay, I had timers laying around the house from my last tank; so I put them to use....
Ok I am just too lazy to turn them off and to cheep to buy a timer  I am such a bum :lol3:
All kidding aside I have yet to find a timer that I like .... I am thinking of turning the systems with x-10 technology :lol3:

x-10 is a home automation system run from a home pc you can modify it if you are away from any computer system (not sure on the exacts as I am not a computer genius ) you can have your lights turn off and on is diffrent sequences and such to make it look like some one is home and moving about for example turn on a bedroom light and 5 minutes or so later a living room then in a half hour the kitchen light to make it look like you are in the kitchen then turn the light off you can even program a coffee maker, stove ,tv or stereo or some other things turn on and off like a person is there it is more complex than a timer

Ok...now I work in electrical engineering and there is no simple way to just plug up timers for the moon lights. On my 12g dx there is the remote balast with switch for the lights and on the hood the switch for the led's. Just plugging the only plug into a timer doesn't allow the led's to burn unless the lights are on. After digging deep, its crazy how JBJ cheated with the wiring. I had to put a relay(relays..thats my field of work) inside the ballast cover and let the timer operate that. I can still turn the lights on and off at any time but still have to leave the leds on 24/7. The JBJ system I have is very neat and attractive, but its the bare minimum when it comes to engineering from the factory.

Thanks for getting me some answers about how leaving the leds on 24-7 would affect any life in the tank.

Mine are on for 4 hours after the lights go off and come on 1 hour before the lights come on, part of my sunrise/sunset setup
