It looks like it is going to do a great job for you. Nice craftsmanship on the canopy and a professional looking job on the reflectors. How are you ging to make the cables adjustable? Or are they going to be fixed at a certain height?

they will be adjustable...The cables arent going to attach directly to the eyelets on the top board from which they will be hanging, rather, they will thread THROUGH the eylets and have loops in the end. So the two cables coming up on the left will thread together through the left eyelet, the two coming up together on the right will thread together through the right eyelet. Each of these will have a loop on the end. When i want the canopy lowered into position, I will place a long cable (maybe 15") with an "S"-hook on each end between the two ends of each set of cables that are threaded through the eyelets. When i want the canopy raised, I will simply place a shorter cable (maybe 4") in between the two ends of each set of cables. If you dont understand, I dont blame you! But there will be pics tomorrow, that'll clarify it, im sure.

Well, it is all done, hung, and fired up!

The only thing is, I'm not sure if the UV glass i got is thick enough. I picked up the stuff that they sell at Michaels. It blocks over 98% harmful UV rays...I placed it right under the lighting and man does it get hot!! I"m considering installin a fan that i have laying around. check out the latest pics.

New Moonlights

Here is the pics of the new LED's from Litylshue...thanks again man. My only question is these LEDs seem pretty focused, to they come with different angles of lighting?

For now the lights are just temporarily sitting on top of the reflectors...eventually i will mount them permanently.

I know the moonlights have to look different in person because in these pictures they are too dark and you cannot see anything...

But the design of your hood is awesome good job on incorporating the MH with PC lighting....

Actually, Mike, they dont look much different in person. They are pretty focused, almost light little spotlights. Thats why I was wondering if these come in broader angles or something, less of a spotlight. Any suggestions?

Ther are LEDs available with different angles of spread but they are none that I know of that are like a floodlight with a broad angled light spread.

find a way to mount them facing upward towards the reflector.. that will spread the light out... i do that with my 5.5gal because otherwise there is a small spotlight in one area and black in the rest...

Jesse,

If you cannot get the look you want, you might ditch them and get the R-2 moon light or the coralife 1 watt moonlight.

You will most definetly will get the light you want; it's strong but your critters will adapt to it and you'll be able to watch all sort of cool stuff happening in the night.

I have many pictures of my moonlights in my thread; check them out if you haven't already.

I'd just extend the wiring so that you can put the ballasts on the floor. They generate a lot of heat and not having it in/on the canopy will help that issue tremendously.

I will have the MH ballast on the floor for sure. The ballasts that are pictured are the PC ballasts...even after being on all day for 10-12hrs they are only somewhat warm to the touch. I think i do plan to move these though, just to not have so much electrical near the water.
